Elon Musk has officially unveiled Tesla’s long-awaited next-generation Roadster, and its capabilities seem almost impossible.

During the reveal, the electric supercar demonstrated a 0–60 mph acceleration time of just 0.81 seconds, making it one of the quickest acceleration demonstrations ever shown for a car.

But that wasn’t even the craziest part.

Using a system of compressed-air thrusters developed with SpaceX technology, the Roadster was shown jumping over cars, performing flips in midair, and even driving upside down.

Originally announced in 2017, the Roadster has faced nearly a decade of delays, with production now planned for 2028.

Tesla says the extreme flying and flipping version won’t be approved for public roads, but the demonstration offered a glimpse of just how far automotive engineering could go.

Knowing a few basic things about your car can make driving safer and save you from expensive mistakes. Even something as simple as headlights has multiple technologies: halogen bulbs give off a warmer light, HID/xenon systems are brighter and take a moment to reach full intensity, while LEDs switch on instantly and generally last much longer.

One of the most useful things to understand is the oil dipstick. The oil level should normally sit between the minimum and maximum markings when checked according to your vehicle’s manual. Too little oil can leave the engine without enough lubrication, while overfilling can also create problems, so “more” does not automatically mean “better.”

Your dashboard warning lights are basically your car trying to communicate with you. A check-engine light can mean many different faults, while red warnings for things like oil pressure, the braking system or charging system can signal problems that deserve immediate attention. Symbols can vary between cars, so the owner’s manual is always the best reference for your specific vehicle.

Even small bits of car knowledge can make a huge difference. Understanding what your lights mean, knowing how to check your fluids and recognizing the technology your vehicle uses can help you catch problems before they turn into much bigger ones.
