❤️‍🩹 Got 2nd🥈 in Prelims for 1A, 6th placing for 1A finals, 2nd🥈 in 2A finals and 3rd🥉 in 5A overall... Was really super stressed out as I was preparing for Singapore National Yo-Yo Championship (SYYC)... finishing my service in Commando, transitioning to immediately start University... personal issues... preparing so hard for my freestyles (especially 2A), doing many behind the scene works for SYYC ensuring the smoothness and each people are enjoying themselves on the day... etc. Even though I may not get the results that I want... hands on my heart... I really did my damn best and perform my heart out... I know people have high expectations of me but you got to understand that sometimes in life you cannot win all the time and that experience taught me a valuable lesson and my seniors once told me that: "Of course it felt good to win but what is your goals end of the day and when the crucial moment comes do you want to give up everything that you do?"

💜 Other people may not like me for whatever reason... but I just hope that if people can start to show some love, that would mean a lot to me, I just want a world where everyone can be inclusive. For me, I still choose to continue this hobby is because I want to show to the world that even people with disabilities they can still succeed in life.

❤ Despite all of this, I have no regrets joining every single contest that I participate, I am happy that I make a big impact to the people around me, to be honest I am very happy of how far I come😄

💞 "What is defeat in life? It is not merely making a mistake. Defeat means giving up on yourself in the midst of difficulties. What is true success in life? True success means winning the battle with yourself. Those who persist in the pursuit of their dreams, no matter what the hurdles, are winners in life, for they have won over their weaknesses"

🥊 Let's bounce back better, moving forward as always

💖 A big thank you to my sponsor @yoyoshopsg for always supporting the community, not forgetting all of the volunteers, sponsors, and especially the competitors, thank you for your support (can't tag everyone... but thank you all who supported me, you know who you are)

Waypoint: Singapore

The second installment in the Waypoint series turns to Singapore, showcasing the local yo-yo community through the people and spaces that define it.

Filmed in mid-2025 and centered around the city’s gardens, the video brings together a range of local players, each offering their own perspective and style against a backdrop that feels distinctly Singaporean.

The project was coordinated by Karthik Devaraj, with filming and editing by Christopher Lee.

From Karthik: “After I quit yoyo for a good 5 years in 2018, I returned backed to the scene in 2023 solely for the community and the boys, and also to achieve my long term dream of being singaporean champion, along that way Jim created “alternatives” and the rest was history, countless of international titles alongside the many contests we’ve held and collaborations with many brands along the way.

Harrison was one of the first few international friends I connected with when I came back in 2023 at the Thailand national contest, we instantly connected and did a while tour around Bangkok together, I’ll never forget those memories. Thank you Harrison, you mean a lot to me.

After that we quickly expanded the South East Asia presence worldwide, we saw Canopy’s waypoint Jakarta project and wanted to hop on to the project to feature the Singapore, immensely grateful to Chris for capturing and editing the beauty of the Singapore scene and all the boys for coming together and make this feature possible. This project wouldn’t have been possible without Chris.

I’ve never regretted coming back to the YoYo scene, the countless opportunities I have gotten and the friendships / bonds I’ve made along the way. I will be nothing without everyone today. Thank you everyone, I will do my best to keep giving back to this community.”

Player Spotlight:

Ho Swee Jim.

2x Asia Pacific Finalist, 5x Malaysia 2nd & SEA Yo-Yoing Godfather.

Behind every great scene is a visionary, and you can’t talk about Malaysian yo-yoing without mentioning Ho Swee Jim.

Jim is a true pioneer, he helped define 1A in the region, earning back-to-back National podiums and representing Malaysia on the Asia Pacific stage in the early days. He remains a force to be reckoned with today, recently taking another 2nd place at MYYC 2025.

Beyond his own freestyle, Jim’s legacy is built on community, he is the founder of “alternatives” alongside his partner in crime Karthik Devaraj, he focuses on scouting new talent and creating gear that reflects a deep love for the game. He also founded the Stronger Yo-Yo Cup, an international contest series designed to bridge the gap between generations in a loud, supportive, and relaxed environment.

Without Jim, the SEA scene wouldn't be what it is today. A mentor, a competitor, and a true legend, make sure to hang out with him at the "alternative" booth and say walao!

Catch him at AP2026.
