POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED
One of my favorite things to dwell on for the past few years has been the transcendentals—Truth, Beauty, and Goodness. What a gift to open the wardrobe door (this time in Franklin, Tennessee) and step into an embodied gathering of them.

Perhaps you’ve heard of Hutchmoot. I had, but I never had the opportunity to go until now. Hutchmoot is the @therabbitroom annual conference that explores the intersection of Christian faith, art, and storytelling.

It’s also the coziest, hobbitiest place of tea and biscuits with jam, typewriters and lectures, feasting under light-strung tents, songwriters playing for one another and writers telling each other their stories. There were concerts and bonfires and free blackberry mochas, film screenings and—I believe—at least one impromptu hoedown. It was perhaps the coziest gathering I’ve ever been to, yet with a brilliant razor-sharpness of iron sharpening iron. It was flint stones sparking together. It was a feast of serving one another our best ideas and coming away full.

In LIGHTSEEKERS 2 (which is coming out in February), I wrote a scene about like-hearted people gathering together to seek the light in a place called the Haven. They drink blackberry mead and feast in an underground, cavernous dining room tucked cozily beneath the light-strung roots of a tree. The air there fizzes with magic and goodness and a homesickness for a better world. The last few days felt a bit like stepping into that scene I had already imagined.

It’s a gift to experience moments on earth that give us a glimpse beyond the veil. May we serve those moments well. May the art we make as a result of them be transcendent—wayposts of truth, beauty, and goodness—to help others find a glimpse it, too.

I’m so thrilled to partner with @WaterBrookChildrens to share three MUST-READ middle grade fantasy series! ✨

If you have a middle grader, get these books on their list ASAP. These are three series that completely captivated me and drew me into their worlds. They are books I’ve recommended in real life to friends and family and ones I will continue to share far and wide for their engaging storytelling, Christian themes, meaningful character growth and wholesome adventures.

🌟 Lightseekers by @emilybainmurphy
An immersive fantasy adventure filled with mystery, danger and a world where the darkness is growing stronger. I loved the deeper themes of light vs. darkness, trust and courage woven throughout the story—and there are some really powerful reminders that light is always stronger than darkness, along with a character who struck me so profoundly. I cannot wait for book two!! 😍

🎨 The Restorationists by @housefullofbookworms
A wildly imaginative adventure filled with art, mystery and high stakes decisions. Kids discover they can travel through paintings and are swept into an incredible journey that blends creativity, friendship, teamwork and uncovering a past that teaches them more than they ever imagined.

🦎 The Wingfeather Saga by @andrewpetersonmusic
A beloved Christian fantasy series packed with wild creatures, strong family bonds, quirky humor, lots of peril and truly spectacular world-building. This is one I especially recommend for the older end of middle grade or for readers who are comfortable with more intense elements.

Have your kids read any of these yet? ❤️

Comment “EPIC” and I’ll send you the links to all three! 📚
