WHY COMMUNITY IS IMPORTANT⬇️
One of the pillars to my account has always been to create a community

Every comment answered & reflected on
Every post w/ parents & families mind
Every opportunity considered to give back in some way whether it is information & entertainment or something more

And while this started w/ giveaways & then the creation of 52 first dates, it has expanded to community events too

This weekend a group of women came together to connect & feel empowered

HOUSE OF COMBAT @houseofcombat
📍15 Hove St, North York, TO

While I wish we lived in a world where self defence never has to be considered, it was inspiring to see the sisterhood, the empowerment & the connection that came out of this event

And what is more inspiring is seeing connections form in real life. Not just a fleeting or passing interaction, but an opportunity to get to know people on a more human level

Online, it can be easy to forget about the human connection. That a person is on the other side

I am so grateful that there have been community organizations & businesses willing to host these opportunities

So if you are a business, consider reaching out so we can building community
If you follow this account, I am grateful you are here. Whether it is a private message, a comment, a reshare, a story share, a like, these all help make these opportunities possible

Thank you for the support & I hope to meet you soon too!

Huit ans.

Decide before you need to decide.

Don’t wait for the crisis. Don’t wait for the moment when everything is on the line.

Train your mind now.
Build your courage now.
Become stronger now.

I stepped into the fight to learn how to rise, and to protect the people I love.

One day it will matter.
Who will you be when it does?

Become the storm you fear.
Warriors don’t quit. Neither should you.

It was great collaborating with House of Combat and bringing the TMU BJJ Competition Team out for focused comp training. Learning from Joel’s wealth of knowledge and experience is always refreshing and invaluable.

Huge thanks to House of Combat for hosting us, we’re excited to continue this collaboration as we head into CUJC, representing TMU on the national stage.

2025 recap

Part 2

2025 was one of those years that really shapes you.

It had its ups and downs, long days, late nights, small wins, big lessons, but also a lot of laughter, friendship, and moments I’ll carry with me for a long time. From the very first TMU BJJ practice session that I started, to being elected as a student representative on TMU’s Board of Governors, this year pushed me to grow in ways I didn’t expect.

I’m especially grateful for the opportunity to found the Canadian Universities Jiu-Jitsu Association alongside dedicated student leaders from universities across the country, and for the support and guidance of the OJA leadership along the way.

Along the way, I was fortunate to meet and work with many inspiring people, from community leaders to public servants, including Premier Doug Ford, members of both the provincial and federal parliament, and Canada’s Ambassador to the UN, Bob Rae.

There’s so much from this year that can’t fully be captured in a single post, the conversations, the challenges, the quiet moments behind the scenes, but I’m deeply grateful for the opportunities I was given and, most importantly, for the people who stood by me throughout it all.

2025 laid the foundation for many things to come, and I’m excited for what’s ahead.

Cheers,
Shervin Akhlaghi

P.S: Part 1 (gotta do 2 post to fit all the pics)
