Who’s the boss? 🙋🏻‍♀️ Only a few people were aware that in late December and early January, I was actively packing up my place and getting ready to move back to my native East Coast (I am a homeowner there). I’m still aiming to go, but my plans are on hold. I met with the NYC branch of my acting agency, found a new vet, made their initial appointments and found new ballet schools. However, this was not in the cards as a huge opportunity on one of my projects makes it necessary for me to stay and see it through.
I’ve been working tirelessly and hoping it’s not too much longer to announce what I’ve been working on. I’ve had to temporarily step back from acting and have turned down some amazing offers for a couple of independent films as well as having to decline some auditions as I want to focus properly on realizing the big picture of the future I want to create for myself.
I have been actively working on becoming a producer so that I can be the boss of my own acting career and to have freedom and autonomy. Those dreams are slowly coming to fruition and it has been years of blood, sweat and tears. I’ve fallen down and heaved myself back up more times than I can count. It has not been an easy road, but for the first time in my life I feel TRULY empowered. I’ve learned to stand up to people who are deemed to have more status and expertise and have gained their respect in doing so. I have proven my creative and intellectual prowess much to their surprise (and also to mine at times 😂). I want to tell the stories I want to tell. I am not just an actor. I am a storyteller.

Gratitude to my family, closest friends and my collaborators. More gratitude to my ballet community stateside and abroad: teachers, classmates, teachers and classmates who are now friends. The ballet community are some of the most loyal and supportive of almost anyone I’ve ever met. Admittedly, it took me by surprise and touched my heart. You all know who you are. Thank you 🩷🩰

I wanted to share that in late January I was diagnosed with Coronary heart disease. Thanks to early detection, and medicine, I will be okay!
I’m a private person, but this seemed TOO IMPORTANT NOT TO SHARE. Especially for women.

My brilliant doctor of 20+ years @drthaisaliabadi sent me to a wonderful cardiologist @ghalichimd when some bloodwork came back high, and through a Heart calcium scan he found plaque in my LAD artery (known as the “widow maker”). It’s mild so far and tends to be genetic, but rare for a 44 year old woman. This could have caused the plaque to chip off and cause a fatal heart attack or stroke any time over the next 5-10 years, maybe even sooner.
Later that night after I was diagnosed, I laid with my sons, putting them to bed, feeling so grateful to God and my doctors that I found this early. But I couldn’t stop thinking about all the other women(and men) that might have this disease and not know it. It is under-tested and under-recognized.
We all are so good about getting our mammograms every year, but we don’t check our heart health. It is imperative that you do! Cardiovascular disease is the Number 1 killer of women, causing 1 in 3 deaths each year.
Tell your doctor you want to be evaluated for coronary heart disease risk. A takeaway from my situation, for your blood tests ask your doctor to specifically look for Lipoprotein(a) and ApoB levels.
Also you MUST ASK YOUR DOCTOR ABOUT A “Heart Calcium scan”
