What are you going to be for Halloween?🎃🍂 here’s Until It All Makes Sense, the first voice memo of a song I wrote the other day. Stick around if you like songwriting BTS and long, sappy stories.

I started jamming with a simple chord progression: C, Am, G, and my classic one-liner lyric that acts as the anchor I construct the whole song around. I usually, and in this case, improv lyrics into a voice memo, write them down, then sit with my guitar and re-write them in a more concise, curt way. I like to call this step musical liposuction. Please don’t ask why I am like this. Sometimes it’s hard to stop writing verses. Did I mention I don’t know what I’m doing? Ok cool

The line that inspired this whole song is “none of this makes any sense”. It represents the desensitization we feel from reading so many horrific headlines and the weight that comes with being a woman in this modern world, with Cornell 7 and Epstein headlines balancing the one’s about AI data centre’s and forest fires. Stay with me here. It’s about finding the optimism in dressing up for Halloween when things feel strange and glum from time to time. Truthfully, I’m afraid to write a long, slow song because won’t people get bored? Some will, but some will listen.

Eager to work on this one more. Get sad with me, hope it makes you cry xx

Shoutout to my childhood/current radio station @1021theedge & @studioshop.stc for the best skeleton fits in town 💀

Another fall bucket list item, Howell’s Greenhouse and Pumpkin Patch ☑️🧡

We had a mini fall break from school and a beautiful fall day. So many fun activities, and everything is very walkable with kids! Pretty sure the pumpkin cannon was the favorite activity of the day. 🎃

Here are four spots worth adding to your list this season.

🍎 Center Grove Orchard, Cambridge
Apple and pumpkin picking, a corn maze, and over 40 fall attractions. Running through November 8 this year. A great day trip for families or anyone who wants to make the most of the season.
🎃 Howells Greenhouse and Pumpkin Patch, Cumming
Wagon rides, a corn maze, and a classic pumpkin patch experience. Open through November 1 this year. One of those fall traditions that holds up every single year.
🦬 Jester Park, Granger
Hiking trails, fall scenery, and a chance to see the bison and elk up close. A quieter option if you want to get outside without the crowds.
🌾 Living History Farms, Urbandale
Iowa’s agricultural history brought to life through working historic farms and hands-on demonstrations. Open Tuesday through Saturday for regular season visits.

Fall in Central Iowa does not get enough credit. There is a lot worth exploring right in our own backyard. And if exploring a new neighborhood or finding a home closer to spots like these has been on your mind, I would love to help with that too.
