Health issues change how you play the harp. They don't change whether you can.

Can I play with arthritis? Fibromyalgia? Tremors? A hand that doesn't work the way it used to? Other health issues? I get asked this every other week and the answer is always yes, because there's always more than one way to do something.

What changes is how you sit, the size of your harp, your stool, how long you play for, which fingers you use, how much you close your hand, your string tension.

What doesn't change is your enjoyment, your music, your creativity, and your ability to play.

Play with the hands you've been given and go from there. You're going to make a beautiful sound, it's going to be you, and that's all that matters. ❤️

If someone's told you your hands are wrong for the harp, I'd love to hear about it.

Look at these happy wee faces. This all happened at last year's How To Harp Retreat: workshops, talks, playing together, and a ridiculous amount of laughing.

And we're doing it all again next month!! I think our second retreat will be even better. 🙌

Stirling, 12 to 16 October. Come and join us.

Booking closes this Saturday, 12 September.

All in the info on the How To Harp site. Link in bio!

There is nothing quite like being in a room full of people who love the same thing you do.

I have turned up to retreats and festivals not knowing a single soul, and left with folk I still message years later. Something happens when you are all in the one place. Playing, listening, laughing, staying up far too late.

So consider this your nudge. If there is a retreat or a festival you keep eyeballing, the one you keep promising yourself you will do next year, go. Book the thing. You will be so glad you did.

The good stuff happens in person.

P.S. If harp is your thing, ours is in Stirling next month and there are a few spaces left. Link in bio. But honestly, go to any of them. Just go.
