June 8 → October 18. Same athlete. Four months apart. Over 4 mph faster during a 20-yard sprint. What these pictures don’t show is the work behind Wesley’s progress. He’s been as consistent as it gets—highly motivated, coachable, and moving with intent every training session. All while training just two days per week. Speed can be developed just like any other sports skill. You have to commit to the process with the same dedication you bring to your sport. #EYG

More isn’t better. BETTER IS BETTER! There are certainly ways to incorporate extra reps and additional training, but there needs to be a purpose behind it. More volume doesn’t automatically lead to better results. You have to consider the athlete’s overall workload, training intensity, and what is required to properly recover and adapt. The goal isn’t to see how much work an athlete can handle. It’s to provide the right amount of quality work to maximize development. Train with intent. Recover with purpose. Make every rep count. #EYG

Teach athletes how to PRODUCE FORCE. Whether it’s a hop, vertical jump, broad jump, or acceleration—the goal is teaching athletes how to put force into the ground and move explosively. We use different movements and equipment to train and measure it: • Single-leg hops • Vertical jumps + VBT feedback • Broad jumps for horizontal power • SHREDMILL work to reinforce positioning and horizontal force production. These are just a few ways we develop it. The best part? Kids love the instant feedback. Give them a number, give them a target, and let them compete against themselves. It’s never work when they’re having fun! Teach it. Measure it. Improve it. #EYG

Speed has to be taught. Watch the difference between reps 1 & 2. First rep, he cycles too early. Rep 2—better extension, better drive down & back. Adding resistance and slowing down the movement allows athletes to feel the position more. Wall drills and accelerated starts help reinforce and layer the movement before adding more speed. Teach it. Reinforce it. Then speed it up. #EYG

DON’T JUST SHOW THEM. TEACH THEM! Bear crawls. Iso holds. Active hangs. Simple movements—but only when they’re done with intent. Real coaching isn’t just telling young athletes what to do. It’s teaching them how to move, what positions to feel, and why those positions matter. Build movement quality first. Strength, speed, and performance follow. Teach the athlete. Don’t just run the drill. #EYG

Parents, if your young athlete works hard but isn’t getting faster, the issue may be movement positions—not effort. Speed comes from applying force in the right positions. Wall drills help teach the basics: Tall posture Strong leg drive Stiff ankles Full-body tension Set up with hands on a wall, body straight from head to heel, ribs down, hips tall, and weight on the balls of your feet. Own the positions. Then build speed. TRAIN THE ATHLETE. #EYG
