Dan Rice just revealed some historic results from possibly the First Annual Summer Surf Contest/HB City Comp. .. I think this is results from 1971.. The 54th annual HB City Comp is happening right now. These historic results are missing a few divisions but it shows Bobby Neishi getting First place in Boys and he has his trophy that he says was from 1971.. others in these results please confirm. Dan Rice (pictured in the first image) gets 2nd place in Juniors behind Gary Wurster both from Edison High School (Gary was also a filmmaker and made the surf film called "Sea Daze" about a student surfer who day dreams about giant surf ( 1st and 8th image are from the film) Gary's brother Steve is seen on a huge day on Southside in 1973 in the 7th image photo by Brad Dawber. Klayne Brown wins the Masters Division (mislabeled) and was a Greek team rider (see ad #14 and with orange board #15) Ripper John Davis win Men's Division and Super Heat was also a Greek Team rider.. David Van Druff got 2nd behind Klayne check out his amazing shot at Newport Point in 1973 photo by Brad Dawber image #9.. Bobby Neishi in a wetsuit ad closeup image #10 and his trophy in #11 Bobby Burchell in Boys 2nd place name mispelled . HB legend Nick Evans in 2nd Mens and David Seagraves name misspelled.. Vince Hoeffler was a part of the legendary Ridge Riders skate group in HB .. Lonnie Buhn got 3rd place in Masters also a Greek rider and is in that all-time classic photo in front of the Greek shop standing on Main Street waxing up his killer shiny purple Greek stick with Bob "The Greek" Bolen himself sitting on the hydrant and shop manager Tom Summers styled out in the fashion of the time late 60s .. And check the next photo of a modern Lonnie with Greek holding up the same photo in the Greek HB Realty Office/Museum .. Thanks for sharing this history Dan! Tag friends and help spread these legends of the early HB City Comp.
