Last Day of March means Last Day of National Social Work Month!!!!

Throughout my time within the HSU Social Work Program I have volunteered with Dyess Elementary, presented at the state capitol on the topic of Child Abuse, researched how social media effects middle schoolers self-esteem, and am in the final stretch of completing a 450 hour internship with a nonprofit organization called Communities in Schools where I have been placed at Madison Middle School & Clack Middle School. I’ve served positions within the Social Work Club and Sigma Beta, such as the student government representative and social media director. I also just received the Social Work Student of the Year award 💜

I am so thankful for the HSU Social Work program!! My professors, classmates and Communities in Schools have pushed me to grow so far out of my comfort zone and for that I am so grateful. I’m looking forward to pursing a career within this field & making a difference in our world 💜

From Abilene to the Texas Capitol, Social Work students traveled to Austin to attend the Advocacy Day Conference. Continuing their education on the road, students learned about the importance of building relationships with legislators to better advocate and provide them with the research needed to make policy changes.
