Episode 40 is OUT NOW! We had the privilege of sitting down with Dr. Loyd Hawthorne, who spent over 30 years at the @hsutx choral program. Dr. Hawthorne brings so much wisdom about recruitment and intentionality with students!

This episode is coming out just in time for HSU’s homecoming this week, which will see Dr. Hawthorne return to conduct the HSU Alumni Choir - the first time since 2017! @hsutxchoir #musicteacher #choir #choirdirector #podcast #musiceducation

In Episode 4 of #BeyondTheMeasure, we had Dr. Dee Romines join us at the very first guest to be featured on the show! He is the Director of Choral Activities at Hardin-Simmons University @hsutx @hsutxchoir and conducts for @chorusabilene’s adult choir. He is also the Music Director at First Central Presbyterian Church Abilene.

In this episode, Dr. Romines spoke about his time singing under legendary conductors like Robert Shaw and Don Neuen. We also got to hear his unique perspective on teaching both band and choir, and the differences that he has observed in the culture and teaching technique required for each ensemble. #musiceducation #choir #choralprogram #choralmusic #collegechoir #conducting

One of my favorite moments from the premiere of “I Will Sing” for #choir. This work was written for the 100th anniversary of Caldwell Music Hall at Hardin-Simmons Universit and was inspired by the founding of their new College of Arts and Media. It was premiered last Fall by @hsutxchoir under the direction of Dee Romines. Full recording is available on YT! @hsutx #choirconcert #sheetmusic #liveperformance #choralmusic #soprano #alto #tenor #bass #sing
