📢Calling all poets & spoken word artists - are you ready to rumble?

Speakers Corner Poetry Slam

📅 Monday 6th October

⏰: 7-10pm (6.30pm registration)

🏠 @cornercornercanadawater

London's newest poetry slam kicks off at Corner Corner on the 6th October, offering the mic to anyone and everyone engaging in the art of the spoken word.

Each month, slammers will have 3.5 minutes to convince the randomly selected judges of the worth of their words, with the three top-ranking poets on the night then having a head-to-head to take the top spot. Winners will get a 10 minute set at the next event and a place in the end-of-season final.

Hosted by UK spoken word OG, Sam Berkson, founder of Hammer & Tongue Hackney @ht_hackney

The events will be fun, welcoming and open to anyone, with live DJ and all the best vibes.

10 places will be available for each monthly slam, on a first come, first served basis, so sign up in advance or early on the door for a chance to share your words. Or simply, come down, grab a drink and watch the poets do battle!

Desperately trying to finish writing a script in between play rehearsals, before heading to We Out Here on Thursday.

Who's coming? If you are - come and say hi 😁 I'll be performing at the Hammer & Tongue slam on the Friday and then doing a full set with the glorious Poet's Palace team on the Sunday.

Would love to see some friendly faces there - new and old 😍 I'll be the one slugging cans of Desperado with a look on my face that says 'I'm too old for this shit but I'm never stopping, so watch me burn bitch' 😜

Memories of our Threads 4th Anniversary celebrations :)

On Sat-11-Feb, we celebrated our birthday at the Post Bar in Tottenham. The night was filled with familiar and new faces, great food, live music & DJs spanning afro, latin, jazz and electronica.

The event was also organised to raise funds and awareness for @wards_corner . The Wards Corner community plan is a continuation of the ‘Save the Latin Village’ campaign - focused on securing a democratically-owned space for the benefit of all who live and work in Tottenham. All of your support meant we were able to raise £1,009 for Wards Corner! If you’d like to learn more and get involved with their project, check out their website in our BIO LINK!

Thanks to all the crew members and performers who came together to make this dreamy event possible, one of the stand out highlights of our year so far.

Special thanks to @harrylamano for putting this video together and capturing the magic on the night.

🤝MEET THE ARTISTS🤝 gracing the stage at our 4th Anniversary fundraiser for @wards_corner THIS SATURDAY!

@afrocatmusic is an incredibly versatile DJ with her mixes featuring everything from intergalactic funk to psychedelia. She currently hosts @blaxploitation_lounge on Threads Radio.

@architecttt__ brings the intensity with his club-ready remixes of classic hip-hop & R&B tracks.

Tottenham sweetest French duo Marie and Moussa founded @mamoussa_ on 2018, aiming to champion DIY club culture. Blending all the music they like together: from afrobeats to afrohouse and disco high-life + zouglou, afrojazz and many more.

Niche live performer, DIY producer and London-based french composer @rosciusmusic has spent the last years building himself a unique reputation in the alternative music world. Mastering the art of improvisation, combining percussion experiments, lyric-less vocals, rare live sampling and harmonization skills, Roscius creates a unique and absorbing soundscape.

@whoisunclemo musical outlook draws influence from time spent living in Malawi, and the UK rave scene, where he spent his formative years as a DJ. His vibe-lifting sets traverse tempos, eras, continents and styles – but two things remain front and centre: soul, and dance.

@sadqueersclub will be mixing a wicked b2b set with @basura.bb - two DJs who we met at one of the Wards Corner Community Group campaign meet-ups, playing everything from reggaeton to top-notch UK bass music.

London born and based musician and producer/songwriter @jazzibobbi creates her own unique blend of abstract techno pop that fuses dark bass lines, pulsating synths and R&B flavoured vocals.

@jamierenton2010 is a London-based globalbeat DJ, promoter and journalist. As a DJ he has played at the Glastonbury Festival, Dingwalls, The Roundhouse, Cargo, Big Chill Bar, Guanabara, 93 Feet East, Notting Hill Arts Club, The Albany and the Musicport Festival

Angry Sam (@ht_hackney) is a London-based poet, teacher and activist who has been hosting and promoting live poetry for fifteen years.

@obeka_music is an Afrobeats and Reggae DJ/promoter coming down from Manchester, with Bermudian Culture rooted in his mixes.
