Club HUÉSPED was the final space guest visited in their journey through our @huesped.cdmx exhibition in CDMX.

We transformed an apartment of the Edificio Francia into a temporary speakeasy bar. A social club for huéspedes (guests) to meet and interact, a decompression space after the exhibition. A place for celebration and exchange.

The design concept was inspired by the graphic identity of HUÉSPED, but with a twist. Way-finding graphics were wheat-pasted to create wallpaper and custom neons washed the space in Huésped green, classic club elements like the disco ball were reinterpreted in surreal glass pieces, and to keep the dance floor moving, a curated selection of musicians and DJs over the 5 nights. In the bar, tequila cocktails and artisanal beer were served thanks to our sponsors @tequilaavion and @cerveceriadecolima.

[8/8] site-specific light installations by @faro__________ for @huesped.cdmx

6500K - 1800K

The gaze tends to settle superficially on things: the first layer revealed before the eyes appears like a totalizing reality. The materiality of light and the technical processes behind lighting often go unnoticed in everyday life. Edificio Francia's iconic staircase functions as this installation's central narrative axis.

This piece proposes to reveal the beauty of the light source as a sculptural object and to create a choreography guided by a gradient of light that oscillates between warm and cold. A pattern of light and shadow accentuated the verticality of this transitory space.

CHISMES (Gossip (MX), Gadget (ES))

This series of sculptures is formed of pieces of vents found on the roof of the building. The piece proposes resignifying particular objects that go unnoticed and are merely practical to become design objects. A sound piece created in collaboration with @nodalab_ completes the installation.

The vents have witnessed the various stories that Edificio Francia housed within its walls. Distant voices and distorted sounds can be heard upon listening closely. These clusters of sounds are reminiscent of neighborhood gossip, and serve as a narrative bridge between the apartments and the rooftop. This piece invites a collective reminiscing of constant exchange within relationships, experiences, and stories of the people who passed through this space.

AZOTEA (Roof top)

After touring the interior of Edificio Francia, Azotea reflects on the part of the compound exposed to the elements. Light and water generate rippled reflections and shadows in this space of shared domesticity that connects the two wings of the building.

Each cubicle reads like a changing diorama in which the interaction between light, water, and visitors generates multiple light images. Together, these transform the space into a visual spectacle with a soundscape of dripping water. The whole piece alludes to the original function of a communal clothesline. Once again, the domestic is transformed into a spectacle.

SOLARES (Solar paths)

Upon reaching the top floor, a spacious apartment transforms into a collage of projections of the solar paths documented over the last few months in the building. A superimposition of images converse with each other and interact with the architectural elements of the space: doors, windows, and floor are transfigured.

Time is condensed in Solares, crystallizing a multiplicity of moments and spaces in a visual archive. The sun projections encapsulate fragments of different moments of the day from the many apartments of the building.

MÉDULA (Medulla)

This piece, made in collaboration with @weare.wemake , is based on the changing materiality of a series of patinated mirrors found in the building. The passage of time becomes apparent through their worn surface, which through textures, transparencies, and opacities, allow us to look through and into them.

The movement of light activates the double function of the mirrors: a kind of choreographed breathing that shows their history. The supporting structure becomes a sculptural object, a marrow of light in the center of the room that gives life to those objects that have acquired new qualities and significance.

DESNIVEL (Unevenness)

Desnivel functions as a space-time membrane that can be crossed with our bodies.

Two laser quadrants mark the difference between the real horizon (green) and that of the building (red).

This piece puts in evidence the sinking subsoil of Mexico City and, therefore, the displacement of the building’s floor. An auditory illusion (Shepard's tone) that diminishes in pitch progressively and infinitely emphasises this unevenness.

Very proud of this work with @faro__________ @huesped.cdmx

I composed the music for this installation in Mexico City. Lights and music were meticulously matched to showcase this beautiful feature window. Inspired by flicking through channels on TV, the music and lights cut between different ‘channels’ starting very mellow and ambient, passing through a range of feelings and moods before an emotional climax. Cleverly showcasing both the window and the beautiful space that surrounds it.

A joy to collaborate with such wonderful and talented people through different forms of art to pay homage to a historic building.

VENTANAL (Picture Window)

Ventanal is a border between what is inside and outside, the past and the present, the observer and the one who looks back.

The dichotomies of the window come to life through a game of chiaroscuro. With a sound piece composed by @frankcolucci inspired by the zapping of a television, the light reveals the outdoor patio, proposing new interpretations of dimensionality by creating ambient textures across the large screen.
