Ten years ago today, we released From Madness to Nomadness on @wewant2w. We just found this old unedited VHS footage documenting the very first session at Boris’ old family beach house in Normandy. The studio was basically the living room of this little house. We tracked allmost everything live, in just a few takes: drums, synths, guitar, sometimes bass. It was the first time we recorded our freshly acquired vintage synths: the Korg MS-20, Korg Delta and Juno Alpha 1. It was also one of our friend @hugodoo’s first experiences behind the desk. He’s come a long way since then. Boris’ old Pearl Tiger Eye drum kit was summed through his Fostex Model 350, with the needles happily bouncing into the red. We also remember all the friends dropping by in the middle of sessions, just to share a drink, a coffee or sometimes a barbecue. Some would show up completely unannounced, right in the middle of a take. You can actually hear empty wine bottles smashing in Blank Page: that’s our friend Alex walking in without warning right in the middle of a take. It happened to be the best take, so we decided to keep it. The EP came out as a 55-copy cassette released by the amazing @wewant2w. It quickly sold out, which forced us to make CD versions while on tour. We remember making the CD sleeves out of kraft paper, stapling them together straight after gigs so we could sell a few more EPs. The cover artwork was created by Boris, drawn on a piece of graph paper and then scanned with his desktop scanner. The drawings were inspired by the work of conceptual artist Robert Filliou, whose work also inspired the title of the record. We’re incredibly grateful to everyone who helped us put out this first record which still means a lot to us and which has been reissued in vinyl by @fuzzclubrecords a few years later. It opened so many doors, introduced us to so many people, and led to so many unexpected adventures. 10 years later, here’s a little glimpse of where it all started.
