There is still time to sign up for this class @hugohouse. Elise knows the business well and you will benefit greatly from this as well as Fundamentals II if you have a book that is close or ready to query or even if you just want to know the ins and outs of the publishing industry for the future.

Then check out Elise at the 20th Collection on November 4th. She will be sharing poems that explore the relationship between harvesting souls and harvesting crops.

Seattle, thank you for a truly wonderful weekend at Deaf Lit Fest! 📚☔️🍁☕️🔥

This was such a socially and creatively invigorating event (aka: ASL chatting nonstop for three days straight 😅). I loved seeing so many people, including some familiar faces as well as several folks I've wanted to meet in person for a long time.

My little book-nerd heart is full after all of these conversations, and I'm returning home feeling excited about what is next for this community. Go write some more books, y'all! 🙌🏼

Many kudos to @deafspotlight (including many wonderful volunteers) for hosting such a fabulous event. And thanks to @rikkipoynter and @motherofadancer for sharing some of these photos with me.

ID: 1) Several Deaf Lit Fest tote bags on a round table, which also features copies of my book ARTICULATE, Brittany Castle's VISUAL STORIES IN SIGN LANGUAGE, and Sara Novic's TRUE BIZ.
2) I am sitting alongside Rogan Shannon onstage, a CART screen to the side and several audience members in the foreground. Rogan is signing to me in ASL.
3) I am sitting onstage wearing a deep blue shirt and slacks, giving a thumbs-up to the audience.
4) Deaf Spotlight sign propped on the sidewalk outside Hugo House, with some changing fall colors in the background.
5) I am sitting onstage with Guthrie Nutter, Raymond Luczak, and Sydney Langford. A Deaf interpreter is standing in the background and a CART screen is to the side.
6) A dinner toast with brightly colored cocktails against a light table.
7) The Seattle skyline and waterfront on a sunny cloudless day.
8) I am standing alongside Ross Showalter and Rikki Poynter in front of the Seattle Public Market sign, which is aglow as dusk falls behind us. Deaf Lit Fest… there are no words or signs to capture what this weekend meant to me. 🥹🤟🏻

I walked in thinking I’d essentially just share my writing journey and advice on Sunday’s panel, but instead I ended up surrounded by brilliant and prolific Deaf authors, wildly inspiring aspiring writers, readers who made me tear up as they shared what my books meant to them, and incredible friends I didn’t know I was about to make. It was a whirlwind of creativity, community, and pure Deaf joy (and chaos!)

And the most full circle moment was that it felt like I stepped into my Deaf YA romcom, SOMEONE TO DAYDREAM ABOUT. The main character dreams of turning her family’s Deaf center into a bright, bustling hub where d/Deafies gather, learn, and connect. Deaf Lit Fest was THAT dream in real life for me—rooms full of Deaf storytellers, Deaf artists, Deaf readers all sharing the same moment.

I’m so honored I got to be part of it! 🤟🏻 To sit on that stage, to share space with such powerful voices, to meet people who are shaping the future of Deaf literature, and to feel the community I love wrap around me like a warm, chaotic hug. Deaf Lit Fest 2026, you were everything! I hope to be back soon 🔥🩵

#authorsofinstagram #bookfestival #asl #romancereader #romcombooks Author Sydney Langford stands in front of a “Deaf Spotlight” backdrop, smiling and holding two of their Deaf books, “The Loudest Silence” and “Someone to Daydream About.” They are wearing a maroon shirt with 3 deaf geese—one has a cochlear implant, one has a hearing aid, and one is signing “I love you” in ASL—glasses, and jeans. A small graphic of a “text” is in the upper left corner and reads “deaf lit fest 2026!”
