For this group project with the Antwerp Conservatory, we explored the theme of Babylon, focusing on the idea of miscommunication. @winterdecock wrote a deeply personal text about growing up and the struggles of miscommunication with her mother. As she transitioned from girlhood to womanhood, her body began to change in ways she didn’t always understand.

@hui_h.h and I translated Winter’s words into illustrations. On the cover, you’ll find a baby, and on the back cover, a mother. They are connected by an umbilical cord, representing their bond, which weaves through the book and forms the illustrations. This cord symbolizes both their connection and the distance caused by miscommunication.
