3. The Sister

It's the fourth time visiting California with my sister. The city welcomes us back with dark and heavy clouds, and it feels different from the last times we've visited. It reminds me of the many people we have been during these trips; the many versions we've shown up as. I realize that I want nothing more than to see what, or who, hides behind this mask.

The city makes way for a desert, and we see its rocky terrain turn into dense woodlands with giants that have overlooked an ever changing world and will, hopefully, far outlive us. Only in their presence do I realize how infinitesimally small we are.

I see my sister make progress in her own way, at her own pace, and have to learn to not just trust my own process, but hers too, whatever it will spiral into. I feel myself letting go, one finger at a time, and feel her slip away. Maybe I'm not the giant to catch her, and maybe that's okay. She contains multitudes that will catch and carry her to wherever she needs to go.

It's been a dream come true to shoot in California, which we could not have done without the amazingly talented @maximiliaanhoutman, @zondergeluid, and @cumulus_frisbee; without the hard work of @huntedshaun who always went above and beyond; and without the endless dedication of @adrianazyskowski who held everything together and kept the wheels turning. And, of course, a big thank you to @nohelykoeyers for your courage, creativity, and strength, and for being my longest collaborator.
