Thanks to a delayed flight, we got an unexpected overnight in Old San Juan, Puerto Rico

What started out as a travel headache turned into an evening wandering colorful streets, following the smell of local cuisine, and enjoying little moments we’d have missed otherwise

Exploring a new city always reignites my love for photography, and I shamelessly slip into full tourist mode capturing anything that catches my eye

So grateful for all of the people and experiences that made this past year so sweet. Looking forward to what’s to come in this next lap.🫶

(Couldn’t tag everybody but I love you all😘)

Trying not to get clipped by the homies while getting clips. Probably my favorite shot I got from this storm using the @insta360snow #insta360x5

Day 7 at sea on SV Catalyst. 170 miles from our destination, St Martin, ~1300 miles in our wake. Passed through more longitudes than I care to remember. Seen more shooting stars than I could count. Waves as big as houses passing us in the night. High speeds, low speeds. Rocking, rolling. Starboard tack for 1000 nautical miles. Even a swim in the Sargasso Sea (which, I read after, is a shark migration route).

I knew it would be an adventure, but nothing can prepare you for the reality of being so far offshore that you’re entirely reliant on yourself, your boat, and your crew mates. There are no escape routes. The only way is through. Listening to the sounds of the night against the hull wondering what’s out there. Watching lightening move across your bow. Surfing waves that make your 55ft boat seem like a toy. Gritting your teeth as waves come over your boat. Fixing broken shit, sometimes in the middle of the night. Watching sunrises. Sailing.

This is the longest in my life I’ve not seen land. Very often we’ve been the only humans for 100s of miles. The ocean is a wild place - full of beauty & peace, and sometimes downright big scary fucking storms. And it’s a good place to go if you’re looking for a healthy dose of perspective.

The sailor that arrives in St Martin will not be the same one who left Newport. ETA dawn, Thursday 11/20/25.

Thank you, @catalyst_sailing
