Reader & runners may run for time, work on personal bests, or focus on fitness goals.

But we’re also people who run to notice. To observe. To learn and to explore and to embrace life. To hear stories and feel something bigger than ourselves.

Running doesn’t have to be just one thing and there’s no wrong way to run.

Readers & runners just know a great way to run is when it opens up our world and teaches us about ourselves, our home, and each other.

Can I get a 🙌🏽🙌🏽🙌🏽🙌🏽!?!?

Great morning to be running, drinking beer, and hanging out in Lakeview.

🍻🏃🏾‍♀️🍻

Thanks so much to @ilbreweryrun for having Read & Run Chicago at your @dryhopchicago event this morning!

Shoutout to stellar readers & runners and guides @gbmcgann, @hurdlexcat, and George for volunteering.

Beer runners: So happy to meet you and connect with people who love reading, running, and exploring Chicago as much as we do. Hope to see you at some of our future events!

@ilbreweryrun has just two more events this season, next weekend at @spitefulbrewing and in December a .5-mile fun run followed by beer (yes, POINT FIVE 😂). Head to their page for more details.

Thank you so much to everyone who was able to join our year-end party at @barcocinachi on Wednesday!

🪩🎉🪩

We were apparently way too much in the moment, because we forgot all about photos 🤦🏻‍♀️🙃

It was an absolute joy to celebrate with all of you and acknowledge all of the books we read and miles we ran! Our reading and running community is full of the kindest, most thoughtful people on earth, and we couldn’t be more privileged to call you our community.

😘 Thank you ALL for being part of our 2023, in whatever shape or form that looked like for you, whether it was joining a run, reading the newsletter, inviting a friend, guiding a run, volunteering, or simply liking our posts.

✨ If you weren’t able to join, we missed you and knew you were there in spirit!

🙏🏽 More gratitude to:
🪩 @barcocinachi Lakeview for hosting—your whole staff rocks! Thanks in particular to to Lauren, Kinsey, Desi, Bridger, Vic, and the rest of the bar staff who took care of us.
🪩 Jayme of @19_lives for helping plan a beautiful evening.
🪩 @threeavenuesbookshop for making a pop-up store of carefully curated Chicago titles and authors.
🪩 Emily, CEO of @italic_type_, for teaching us about your badass book tracking and digital platform for readers.
🪩 Everyone who brought delicious homemade cookies for our cookie exchange!
🪩 All of our raffle donors—I’ll be shouting you out soon!
🪩 Volunteers Maria and @vanessarigs for slaying their duties.
🪩 All the dancing queens who stayed jumping until the wee hours of the end of our reservation, 10pm 😂 (that’s late for a group of runners with a 4:45am wake up call!).

📣 We’ll be posting news on the announcements we shared on Wednesday and 2024 schedules here (and via our newsletter) in the coming weeks.

Can’t wait for 2024!

CELEBRATE LUNAR NEW YEAR THIS WEEKEND! 🎉

Cat Shieh (@hurdlexcat) is a dedicated reader & runner and Read & Run Chicago volunteer. (She’s also Sunny’s mom!)

In a special video for our newsletter earlier this week, Cat rounded up some of the best Lunar New Year celebrations in the city and why it means so much to her.

“As someone who is Asian American and grew up in the most pan-Asian suburb in the country, it’s important for me to be able to have connections to to the way I lived growing up, to the foods I used to eat, to be able to speak the same language that I grew up with,” Cat says in her video. “It’s an honor and a privilege to be in a city where I get to continue to do that.”

Here are just a few options:

🎊 Saturday, February 17: Chinese Mutual Aid Association’s 2024 Year of the Dragon Lunar New Year Celebration

🎊 Saturday, February 17: Argyle Lunar New Year Celebration

🎊 Sunday, February 18: Chinatown Lunar New Year Parade

➡️ Head to link in bio to watch the full video, and follow these organizations for all the details:

Happy celebrating!!

One more recap from this morning’s track featuring the Fam from Heat 1 & overall good vibes!

Thanks to everyone who showed up and made something as scary as the mile time trial less scary and dare we say, more fun even. Congrats to everyone’s strong showing too. Come back next week for another track workout as we continue to collectively prepare for the @chishuffle
