Yesterday, HUSL celebrated the ribbon-cutting of our new School of Law and School of Divinity sign on West Campus. Our new West Campus sign is emblematic of our commitment to building upon the 157-year legacy entrusted to our care. May every student who passes it take a moment to reflect on how far they’ve come and be reminded of how far their Howard Law journey can take them.

⛪️ We look forward to welcoming our guest preacher this Sunday in our 11:00 a.m. worship service. The Rev. Dr. Kenyatta R. Gilbert is dean and professor of homiletics at Howard University School of Divinity. The Chapel Choir and organists will lead the music in the service, including an original hymn, "All-Embracing God," by Chapel Organist Chad Fothergill.

Congregation members sit in wooden pews on either side, facing the altar where three individuals in white robes walk in procession. Above the ornate wood-carved altar screen, large stained-glass windows depicting religious figures glow in shades of blue, red, green, and gold, flanked by long hanging pendant lights along the stone walls.

“DANIEL’S FOURTH KINGDOM: Fulfilling the Times of the Gentiles” is available @westbowpress, @amazon, @barnesandnoble, and other booksellers!

“[C]onsider the relevance of the Bible concerning world history, current events, and the future.” (Author)

With illustrations (including maps), subheadings, footnotes, a summary of main ideas at the beginning of each chapter, and a conclusion along with study questions at the end of each chapter, this book is especially useful for Bible study groups and book clubs.

“The book can be used for teaching Bible-study classes by using the author’s well-developed study questions in addition to the reading materials. The result from a Bible study of Daniel chapters 2 and 7 will be very rewarding.” (Reviewer)

We are not alone.

That’s the word. 🔥🔥🙌🏾😮‍💨

The same God that stood with Daniel in the lion’s den, walked with the Hebrew boys in the fiery furnace, and lifted Jesus out of the grave is the same God still on the throne. No orange dictator in the White House, no system trying to march us back to pre-Civil Rights America, no ICE agent terrorizing our communities, no policy, prison, pulpit, or power structure can stop the God who sits high, yet looks low, and keeps His Hands around the marginalized!

I don’t preach because the church needs another performance. I preach because somebody in the back row is fighting ICE raids, rent hikes, grocery bills, gas prices, depression, debt, disappointment, and a devil that keeps trying to convince them they won’t make it.

I preach because somebody is trying to praise God with a pink slip in their pocket, a shutoff notice on the table, and tears they had to swallow before they walked through the sanctuary doors.

I preach because I know what it feels like to have sleep for dinner. I know what it feels like to sleep in piles of snow so cold my body started burning. I know what it means to survive what this world swore would bury me.

And that’s why I still say, nevertheless, and no turning back!!!

I’m The HUSL Poet & Hood Preacher, and I believe the pulpit is still a place where pain meets purpose, where the hood hears hope, and where somebody who almost gave up gets reminded that God ain’t done.

I’m accepting preaching, spoken word ministry, youth Sunday, chapel, revival, and justice-centered worship invitations for this summer and fall.

The world behind me.
The cross before me.
No turning back.
Disclaimer: For preaching, spoken word ministry, chapel, youth Sunday, revival, and justice-centered worship invitations, please email byron@hoodblackandeducated.com.
Please note that there may be a brief delay in accepting preaching assignments, as I prayerfully run every opportunity by my Pastor, Rev. K.C. Pierce II of Hopewell Baptist Church of Detroit, for his guidance and blessing first.

On this chilly Pentecost Sunday, I refused to let gloomy weather keep me from the House of Worship. Today, The HUSL Poet & Hood Preacher fellowshipped with Alfred Street Baptist Church, where Rev. Dr. Luke A. Powery delivered a powerful Word that stirred both spirit and soul.

After service, while building with him, I discovered that the current Dean of Howard University School of Divinity, Dr. Kenyatta Gilbert, was actually his roommate back during their undergraduate days. On top of that, I found out his father’s name is Byron too. A small world indeed.

Moments like this remind me how connected purpose really is. It also gave me the opportunity to continue spreading the vision for The Liberated Soul Collective, the organization I chartered at Howard University School of Law, which will be fully operational this upcoming fall. We’re building a space where faith, Liberation, justice, poetry, culture, and community can breathe together.

The Spirit still moves. Even in cold weather. Even in uncertain times. Pentecost reminds us that the fire never left. ✊🏾🔥

Hey family, it’s your friendly neighborHOOD law student, poet & preacher, Byron D. Brooks “MoSoul.” By God’s grace, my calendar is now officially open for booking.
Churches, ministries, conferences, colleges, universities, nonprofits, community organizations, and institutions, I am now accepting invitations for preaching engagements, keynote addresses, spoken word performances, workshops, panels, leadership trainings, and social justice-centered programming.
Whether the assignment is the pulpit, the classroom, the conference stage, or the community, my mission remains the same: to speak life, challenge systems, uplift the people, and help cultivate spaces rooted in truth, healing, justice, and Liberation.
Please note that prior to formally accepting preaching engagements, there may occasionally be a brief delay, as I first run all preaching invitations by my Pastor to receive his blessing, wisdom, and guidance. I believe spiritual covering, accountability, and discernment matter deeply.
For booking inquiries, I can be reached at:
byron@hoodblackandeducated.com
Or if you already have my number, feel free to give me a call directly.
The work continues.
The Word still has fire.
The people still need hope.
And the Hood still needs Love.
