POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED

this november 5th, we gather once again to celebrate the art, people and stories that make melville what it is. 🌿

our november poster features the work of johannesburg-based artist Bertus van Rooy, whose practice explores the space between order and chaos, finding beauty in the details we often overlook.

working with analogue photography and alternative photographic processes, Bertus captures the textures, people and everyday moments that shape our city. his work invites us to slow down, look closer and see the familiar in a new light.

A little change of plans

Our Backyard Sundays launch, originally scheduled for 11 October, has been postponed to Sunday, 8 November 2026, to give us a little more time to make this experience more special for you.

We’re looking forward to a Sunday filled with good company, music, performances and meaningful conversations, showcasing the people and possibilities that make our creative community what it is.

Thank you for your patience and for your excitement about what we’re building. We can’t wait to welcome you to a yard full of possibility! ❤️

Are there things you wish you could do, but can’t because of how unpredictable your creative career is?

Backyard Sundays is a Sunday afternoon hangout for creatives and art lovers in Joburg. It’s a space to spend time with people who understand the realities of making a living from creative work, while enjoying good food, music, performances and easy conversation in a backyard that feels like home.

We’ll talk about creativity, making a living from your work, building a life around it and the things that matter to us. Come share your experiences, hear how other creatives are figuring it out, meet people who might become collaborators, clients or simply part of your network, catch up with old friends, discover new artists or find a spot in the sun and chill.

Because you never know where a good conversation, a new connection or a new idea might lead.

Tickets available now. Link in Bio

Backyard Sundays is brought to you by Zané, in partnership with @saguildofactors, @degg_io, @bunny.tax and @hustle_nest

In the inaugural TAIV photolecture series, @ANDYMKOSI takes us through her practice through a reflection of her early life into who she is becoming now.

The lecture begins with the family represented through the photo album, an archive of family life familiar to South African life.

Mkosi then moves us to her creative encounters and collaborations through the Langa and Cape Town Hip Hop soundscape, to working with other creatives in poetry and music.

In closing her lecture Mkosi introduces us to how her photography practice has shifted, from a technical perspective to engaging with various disciplines like printmaking and becoming a centred subject matter in the practice.

A big shoutout to our partner @hustle_nest for seeing this through with us.

We had a great time last week at Spaces Photo Lecture Series hosted by @thisaudioisvisual in partnership with @hustle_nest getting to hear more about @andymkosi and the work behind the person.

We also caught up with @sadcam.tv and other creatives at the event, talking creative toxic traits, the South African creative economy and what it needs more of.
