Ojai ✨ Uno de esos pequeños lugares mágicos de California que te invitan a bajar el ritmo, caminar sin prisa y simplemente disfrutar del momento. A veces no hace falta ir muy lejos para sentir que has entrado en otro pequeño universo. 🌿🤍

There’s only ONE entirely #vegan brick-and-mortar restaurant in each of these nearby Ventura cities? YEP (unless I’m missing any? In which case please comment!!). But I’m talking entirely plant based and has a whole building. What’s my point? (1) We should be patronizing these places like a lot! And (2) We need more!

Ventura : @seedrangervegan
Ojai : @hvojai
Santa Barbara : @rascals.rest
Oxnard/Silver Strand Beach : @lajenellenaturalcafe

NOTE: We also always appreciate vegan options on other menus, don’t get it twisted!

✨ AN ESCAPE TO OJAI — YOU HAVE TO VISIT!

Is Ojai the most spiritual town in the universe? ✨ it certainly feels like it is!

Only about 1½ hours north of Los Angeles, tucked away in a gorgeous valley surrounded by mountains, Ojai is one of those little California towns you have to experience at least once.

For generations, it has attracted spiritual seekers, artists, healers and free spirits. Spiritual philosopher Jiddu Krishnamurti made it his home in the 1920s, and it has since become synonymous with meditation, spirituality, alternative healing, crystals and a different, slower way of experiencing life. There really IS something about the energy here. I feel it almost immediately: calmer, more grounded, more peaceful. Everything slows down. You breathe. You reconnect.

Here are a few of the places I stopped by today:

🔮 The Crystal Corner — an absolute must for me in Ojai: crystals, minerals, jewelry and all kinds of spiritual treasures. Website: thecrystalcornerojai.com

🌱 Hip Vegan — a wonderfully laid-back vegan restaurant with a beautiful outdoor patio and exactly the kind of relaxed vibe you expect to find here. Website: hipvgn.com - Instagram: @hvojai

📚 Bart’s Books — Ojai’s legendary open-air bookstore, founded in 1964. Thousands and thousands of books, little passages and corners to explore. It’s magical. Website: bartsbooksojai.com
Instagram & Facebook: @bartsbookojai

🌳 Libbey Park & Libbey Bowl — in the heart of Ojai, with its beautiful open-air amphitheater, where concerts and events are held throughout the year.

🏨 Hotel El Roblar — Ojai’s historic hotel dating back to 1919, recently beautifully restored by a team including filmmaker and conservationist Eric Goode, the man behind Tiger King, Chimp Crazy and Monsters of God. Even the hotel has an animal connection: two giant Aldabra tortoises, Abra and Cadabra, are visiting from Goode’s Turtle Conservancy. Website: theroblar.com - Instagram: @theroblar

took my @makermaker_store tip top tank out for a spin this weekend, and i grappled with the love-hate feeling of my handmade things. can you relate?

this was the first top i’ve ever knit, and it has a ton of mistakes. some days i adore it, some days i want to frog it (iykyk), and sometimes i kick myself for going so long since i last knit anything. truth is, the weather is too hot and my hands, too clammy!

i’ve been toying with the idea of re-knitting this in a new color. any suggestions? 🧶

I’m not very good at taking photos of our recording sessions, so here’s some music-adjacent food porn. After all, getting off campus for a power lunch is great for a little perspective.

The Cup Challenge took us all around Ojai and somehow delivered us right back to our happy place: dance. 💃🏽✨

We are so grateful for our local Ojai World Dance Festival sponsors such as @ojaiplayhouse @rainbowbridgeojai & the many others supporting the arts in Ojai! 🌳

Our 24 hour trip to Ventura! 🌊 🌴

Here’s what we learned on this trip.
1) Buffy is into shirtless surfers 🏄‍♂️🤷🏻‍♀️
2) how have we never been to @paradisepantrymarket …..
3) Watching Love Island in a hotel with an ocean breeze is 10/10.
4) You need a minimum of 3 humans to travel with 4 chihuahuas 😂😂

We ate at
Hip Vgn @hvojai
Paradise Pantry @paradisepantrymarket
Rascals @rascals.rest

All SO GOOD!!!! Helly R & friends approved! 😂

Part One: Ojai 🩷

Ever since I was in college, I've always always always wanted to go to Ojai, California, after seeing it on someone's blog post. Finally made it happen this year to celebrate our wedding anniversary/my birthday. Happy to report that Ojai is as beautiful as I imagined 🥹 Strangers were so friendly. An old man told us to look for the mural with a beaver, and so we did. The lady at the bookstore saw us outside and let us in an hour earlier than opening time. We also met the chef of The Dutchess and Joplin's... and the food almost made my ex-chef husband cry, haha. We will be back for sure. Love you, Ojai. 🥹🫶
