Visiting Melbourne’s first ever charcoal KBBQ restaurant (from 2006!) and I can definitely see why it’s an institution 🔥 one of the best quality meat x bbq I’ve had recently!! And of course I went crazy on the unlimited, multitude of side dishes that included some of my favourites (radish, kimchi, beansprouts, konjac and even japchae!)
🥩 Hwaro Set E (Wagyu scotch fillet, tender strip, skirt) - $135
🍃 Enoki, kimchi pancake

📍 Hwaro BBQ, Little Bourke St, Melbourne CBD @hwaro

Wagyu and KBBQ lovers, add this one to your list 👀

Hwaro BBQ is an underrated Korean BBQ spot on Little Bourke St, serving quality Wagyu and authentic Korean dishes. You know a spot is legit when even Korean celebrities have visited 👀

We ordered:
🤍 Wagyu Set E for 2 (Wagyu scotch fillet, tender strip & thin skirt)
🤍 Zucchini pancake
🤍 Crab Shin Ramyun

The Wagyu was genuinely SO good. The scotch fillet and tender strip were my favourites, super tender and literally melted in my mouth.

The zucchini pancake was also such a surprise! I’d never tried anything like it before, but I loved it.

Quality meats, great vibes and lovely service. Definitely one to save for your next KBBQ night in Melbourne 🥩

We visited Hwaro Korean BBQ and enjoyed an incredible spread of premium meats grilled over charcoal smoky, juicy and beautifully caramelised with every bite.

But don’t stop at the BBQ! We also tried their hearty Budae Jjigae, crispy golden Korean pancake, and tender raw marinated crab bursting with sweet and savoury flavours.

Did I just discover the ultimate Korean-style charcoal pot BBQ destination?

This Korean restaurant focus on authentic premium traditional Korean-style charcoal pot BBQ right in Melbourne’s CBD. Hwaro also offers some of the best genuine Korean dishes you’ll find. You definitely shouldn’t miss it! 👌

✨Featured menu:
🥩Hwaro Set A signature:
We sampled the Hwaro Set A signature, which includes three varieties of meats (Wagyu chuck eye steak, Marinated rib fillet & Gochujang pork belly). The meats were beautifully arranged on a platter. My favorite was the Marinated rib fillet, bursting with flavor and expertly cooked by the staff, who were attentive while grilling the meats.

🍲Stone bowl bibimbap:
I adore Korean bibimbap, and this one was delicious to try. The bibimbap features toppings of carrots, zucchini, mushrooms, Korean seaweed, beef, and eggs drizzled with Gochujung sauce and mixed for a delightfully spicy taste.

🌶️Kimchi Pancake:
In nearly every Korean restaurant I visit, I always order the kimchi pancake. This dish is filled with kimchi and pairs beautifully with the crisp texture and tangy kimchi flavors, making it delicious.

🥟Pan-fried Korean Mandu (dumplings):
The Korean mandu were pan-fried to achieve a lovely crispiness and had flavorful fillings. The mandu is an excellent starter dish to try.

🍜Korean cold noodle soup:
Finally, be sure to try the Korean cold noodle soup. It’s the perfect dish to enjoy after the Korean BBQ. The chilled broth is refreshing, and the noodles are topped with beef, radish, cucumber, and a boiled egg.

Hwaro serves some seriously delicious Korean barbecue in Melbourne ✨
Stepped inside and instantly transported back to Seoul, bringing back so many travel memories.

Their beef is absolutely incredible. I kept wondering why it tastes so much better than the beef I cook at home from the supermarket! Turns out their beef is dry‑aged for 3‑6 weeks. Concentrated, rich flavour, the texture is next‑level.

What we ordered:
▪️Wagyu Oyster Blade: Beautiful marbling. Charcoal‑grilled to perfection, rich buttery aroma, tender and not greasy.
▪️Thin‑sliced beef tongue: Edges curl up over charcoal, crisp and juicy, tastes great even without sauce.
▪️Spicy pork belly: Classic lettuce‑wrapped pork belly bite! Fatty savoury flavour balanced with fresh crisp lettuce.

Real charcoal open‑flame grilling! The flavour hits differently compared to electric grills or metal hotplates, really amplifies the meat’s natural aroma.
Huge plus: the ventilation system works amazingly well. No smoky fumes, you won’t reek of smoke after your meal.

Best part — you don’t need to grill yourself! Staff take care of everything and nail the timing. Also the team are such good‑looking people. I’d call this the fine‑dining of K‑BBQ!

KBBQ — the traditional way 🔥

📍hwaro
562 little bourke st, melbourne cbd

hwaro is one of melbourne’s original k-bbq spots, known for cooking over a traditional charcoal brazier — a hwaro — which gives the meat that unmistakable smoky flavour.

the premium cuts were tender, juicy and so full of flavour, with the staff helping cook and guide you through the meal.

definitely on the pricier side, but the quality and experience make it so worth it.

save this one for your next k-bbq feast 🥩
