The Coast is Calling 🌞 a very special project to have been apart of. Five years ago I moved to South Australia, and this campaign felt like a full-circle moment. I came on board as 2nd Unit Production Assistant and also featured as talent - which made it even more meaningful. I really love this state, so being part of something that supports its coastal communities makes me very proud. The passionate locals I met on the Yorke Peninsula were incredible - people who deeply love where they live and who deserve our support. It was also so special to work alongside such talented, kind humans. We all supported each other and worked so well as a team. Incredible to hear that 'Home' has been nominated in the national ASSG Awards for Best Sound (Short Film) Working with Sam to craft the sound of this special film was a beautiful and unique experience, we recorded Taungurung song in language on country and hiked Mona's gong up a hill to improvise with Alex on Cello. The latest subject in our 'Creativity Amongst Crisis' series is emerging composer and sound artist Alex Olijnyk (who has previously been featured in Fever Pitch Magazine along with her co-director of Hyperdynamic Studio, Hamish Keen). Alex spoke to us on composing film scores during the pandemic, and how collaboration helps to inspire her: "It’s hard to believe that everything will always be awful forever-and-ever when you’re deep in a three-hour conversation about music, about beauty, about stories. When you have somebody else to bounce ideas off, to inspire you, and yes, to make sure you make deadlines, everything seems more possible."

During these disconcerting times, as we rely more than ever on recorded sound and video, we are reminded of the incredible importance of skillful sound design. Stella Joseph-Jarecki had the opportunity to speak to Alex Olijnyk and Hamish Keen, co-directors of audio creations studio Hyper Dynamic.
