Lactate turnpoint speed, not VO₂max, lined up best with HYROX finish times in this new pilot study. Eight trained male HYROX athletes (Pro and Open) did a lab treadmill test with lactate and gas analysis, then raced HYROX within six weeks. What they found: 🔹 Every 1 km/h of lactate turnpoint speed went with about 6.3 min off the finish 🔹 Lactate turnpoint speed alone accounted for about 65% of the spread in finish times 🔹 Station time was almost identical to running time: 31.7 min vs 31.8 min on average 🔹 Lactate turnpoint measures tracked station time as closely as running time 🔹 VO₂max showed no clear link, but it only ranged from 50.4 to 57.0 in this group, so it couldn’t separate them The station finding is the one I’d focus on. Most people treat the stations as a strength problem. The authors’ explanation is that a higher lactate turnpoint makes the runs cheaper, so you arrive at each station with more left and recover faster after it. This lines up with what I see in the lab. In my reel earlier this year, the HYROX athletes I work with showed the same pattern: we calculated for every 1 km/hr their LTP was they took over 4 mins off their HYROX race performance. Watch it on my profile if you missed it. Before you rewrite your training, here are the caveats. This was 8 men, it shows links rather than cause, and athletes raced different events and divisions. It doesn’t mean VO₂max is unimportant. In a group with a wider spread of fitness, it still separates people. What to do with it: 1. Test your lactate turnpoint rather than estimating it 2. Prioritise running that raises your lactate turnpoint speed 3. Keep easy volume below your first threshold 4. In your race run each 1 km at or just under lactate turnpoint speed 5. Train stations straight off a run, under fatigue Save this for your next HYROX block, and send it to your training partner. Do you know your lactate turnpoint speed, or are you guessing it? We have a free at home calculator comment LTP for the link. Citation in the carousel. #HYROX #HYROXtraining #lactatethreshold #exercisephysiology #endurancetraining

**54. Still competing. Still learning. Still challenging myself. 💪** I've just come back from competing at HYROX Boston, and a lovely message I received before the race got me thinking about something I've always believed in. Looking after ourselves physically and mentally, continuing to train, pushing our boundaries and not allowing age to define what we're capable of. I believe in leading by example. But you don't need to compete in HYROX to benefit from that approach. Maybe you've trained for years but lost some consistency. Maybe you're putting in the work but not seeing the progress you want. Or maybe you're ready for your next challenge. **Fitness is about having options.** Having the strength, fitness and confidence to trust your body. To say yes to opportunities, take on new experiences and lean into challenges rather than shy away from them. That's what we're building at Compass Coaching. I'll bring the experience, coaching, structure and support. You bring the commitment and willingness to put the work in. **Train for the life you want to live.** If you've trained before and you're ready to see what you're capable of, drop me a message. Let's have a chat. #CompassCoaching #FitForLife #FitnessOver40 #FitnessOver50 #StrengthAndConditioning FunctionalFitness HealthyAgeing HYROX OnlineFitnessCoaching TrainForLife

As I prepare for @hyroxdublin in a few weeks with my best mate, I wish I had have discovered @_the_athletes_club_ sooner. 2 great sessions so far, and a really welcoming environment. I’ll definitely be making this my training sanctuary when I get back from home and holidays. Another tough session, training that takes me way out of my comfort zone. I got through. I know we’ll get through Hyrox Dublin. Really looking forward to it. First few runs I felt ok, wasn’t way off. I fell away a bit the back end. At 43 and carting around 95kgs, if I got a snapshot of where’d I’d be now, 20 years ago I’d have laughed it off. Here’s to a great build up to November 13th. #bravestarperformance #athletemindset #progressnotperfection #Hyrox #growth

Hyrox Pro Solo - Geneva 🇨🇭 Great way to start the season with a new Pro Solo PB (59:35), having only taken the overall win in Oslo Open Solo two weeks ago 🫡 Despite the tough sled push, where I somehow managed to lose a shoe 🤣 I'm very happy with how I paced and executed the race. Overall, it felt so controlled and smooth right up to the last 35 wall balls, which was an unusual but nice thing to experience! Regardless, I'm just happy to have been able to express some of my fitness when it matters 🤝 As always, thank you for all the messages and support, it means a huge amount, both on the good and the bad days - onwards we go 🙏 #hyrox #athlete #fitness

Stress fractures are showing up more in the hybrid and middle distance crowd lately. Sat down and actually looked into why instead of just guessing. It's rarely one thing. It's usually something new introduced without the buildup mileage jumping too fast, hybrid training stacking fatigue on top of running, a new surface, a switch to carbon shoes with no transition. The one nobody wants to hear: running more and eating less isn't discipline, it's how you weaken the exact bone taking the pounding. A deficit as small as 300 calories a day, kept up over time, is enough to do it. If something's aching in a bone and it's not easing with rest, or it's there at night get it scanned. Don't guess. This is based on high level research and conversations I've pulled together and patterns I'm seeing, not a diagnosis for anyone specific. If you're dealing with something, go get it looked at properly. Has this happened to any of you? What actually got you back running?#HybridAthlete #HyroxTraining #HyroxAthlete #StressFracture #RunningInjuryPrevention
