FADE INTO COSMIC DARKNESS

On Thursday, October 22nd we continue to CINERGIZE. We invite Carpet (F.L.H.P) as our headliner for a 2-hour long DJ set inspired by the film Mandy (2018) by Panos Cosmatos. She has taken us on deep cinematic and emotive journeys with her party series Mess is Lore that fully embraces what it is to be human - the good, the bad, and the outright strange. There would be none better to blast us into the cosmic darkness that is this film.

She is supported by Peter Fonda who will be our opening hour. They are a true head in the NY underground focusing in on a social, therapeutic, and embodied approach to sound. Fonda understands the assignment, the music, and the importance of good sound having built speakers with Jim Toth and collaborating extensively with MoMA PS1.

3D wizard HZRD will be controlling the visuals once again. Expect liquid acid to drip from the screen directly into your eyes.

Ticket link in bio. Limited space available.

NOTE: Access/key code to the space will only be given to those who buy tickets online beforehand - we are not selling tickets at the door. If you cannot get tickets online for whatever reason - please DM us so we can make sure you can get inside.

So let’s talk about the film, aka LSD - The Movie. Panos Cosmatos highlights the beauty and horror of the 1970’s - heavy metal soundscapes and design, fantasy and sci-fi illustration, psychedelics, and of course the cults and serial killers. The film embodies both the peaceful calm and the eery isolation of living in the woods with a bedroom exposed by windows on all sides. People talk a lot about crime in big cities but the kind of freaks that live in the middle of nowhere…now that’s something to lock your doors about. A place where no one will hear your screams. Also who would be better to embody the rage and revenge in this film other than NICK FREAKIN CAGE. He gives it an extra campy feel that the film really calls for.

Jóhann Jóhannsson scores this film perfectly with chilling and hair raising sounds that flow through feelings of the deep calm and comfort of love, the immense beauty of the protagonists’ woodland surroundings, and the betrayal, fear, an

INTRODUCING CINERGY ARTISTS

All three of these people are pillars of the NY music and events community. They are some of my favorite people molding the scene, sharing great music, and uplifting other artists doing the same.

We invite them all tomorrow to get inspired by the film Miracle Mile by Steve De Jarnatt and the score by Tangerine Dream. Greesh and Boatneck will be playing B2B from 9pm-11pm which will be paired with liquid dreamlike visuals by HZRD.

GREESH you may recognize from the beautiful space and community that is L&SD. He is a classically trained pianist turned ambient DJ that draws inspiration from the sounds found throughout the New York DIY scene. Expect him to combine synths, vinyl, and film samples to capture the sounds and feeling of this 80s apocalypse.

BOATNECK is the project of Michael Reed, a DJ and party nerd whose education has taken place mostly in the apartments, basements, borrowed crash pads, and other spaces where a record could change the climate of an entire night.

From his East Village Radio residency, to helping out at historic DIY spaces around the city, to playing alongside the people and parties that have shaped his musical education, his selections move freely through all corners of dance music. A traveling circus, more or less… and in the best possible way.

HZRD you may recognize at a certain roller playground doing a myriad of things. He is a 3D artist, designer, engineer, and builder. Whether he’s making visuals for large concerts, artist promotion, building custom pieces for parties or neon church lighters cases - you’ll know it’s his work right away. His world has a modern gothic feel where solids become liquid and it all feels somewhere between a dream and a nightmare.

BITCH: March 20th-April 17th

Gaby Cavaliere and Ava Kutner are excited to present Bitch, our debut exhibition at 3rd Story Gallery featuring the work of thirteen artists, including Kutner and Cavaliere (Libby Stew), at diverse stages in their careers: Annika Fricke, Fiona Frances, Greta, Henry Kramer, HZRD, Matt Diesing, Marle Adelman, Raymond Samame, Paul Root, Selah Payne, and Xavier Sylvia-Jackson.

While “bitch” is historically a negative word, our exhibition aims to add to its definition by showcasing various interpretations of the term, whether positive, negative, or metaphysical, using a variety of mediums including painting, photography, and sculpture. We invited the artists to explore the essence of this phrase, breaking it down into all of its components. What are the concrete or abstract visible manifestations of a “bitch”?

Come join us for the opening on March 20th from 7-10pm at 3rd Story Gallery! If you can’t make the opening we are showing til April 17th, make an appointment with us! @b1tch_gallery
