Sharing a little personal milestone today: our peer-reviewed paper has been accepted for publication in Frontiers in Pediatrics. I had the honor of working on it alongside a team of brilliant researchers I’ve admired for years. 🥹

After 15 years of working with families in practice, getting to contribute to the research side of feeding for the first time feels like a full-circle moment. 🫶

Especially during a time when evidence-based science and research are currently facing more systemic risks than ever before.

A proud mom win that led to this post…

The way we talk about food becomes the way our kids think about food… and those words can have a lasting impact.

A recent moment really brought this home. After living abroad for nearly four years, my child spotted Cheetos—something familiar—and lit up. We let her choose them and pack them in her lunch, honoring the joy, comfort, and connection that food can bring.

At school, a comment was made about them being “unhealthy.” And while there’s no blame here—this is the language so many of us were raised with—it does highlight something important: we often moralize certain foods, even when nutritionally they’re quite similar to other commonly accepted foods across cultures (I see you, Pom-Bear 🙂).

In our home, we believe all foods can fit in moderation. Removing judgment from food helps kids build trust, not fear.

If you’re a parent, teacher, or caregiver, your words matter more than you might realize. Small shifts in language can gently reshape how children relate to food over time.

While I’m not a pediatric dietitian, I am a mom, a registered dietitian, and someone who has personally experienced how powerful—and harmful—the language around food can be. That experience is a big part of why I’m so passionate about helping raise the next generation with a better relationship with food.

I just returned from 4 magical days in Panama as one of 30 (or 33) media dietitians chosen to attend #FoodFluence: an invite only sponsored conference for media RDs and nutrition communicators.
It’s always an incredible mix of cutting edge scientific research, cultural immersion, fabulous food, and cup-filling friendships.

In a world that can feel divided, gathering with passionate voices in nutrition and health; people who are actively shaping the future of our profession was incredibly empowering. I always leave this space with a spark lit a little brighter… inspired to grow, to lead, and to build alongside both new friends and lifelong ones.

Panama, you were unforgettable. The heat reminded me I’ll forever be a SoCal girl at heart ☀️ and the culture? Absolutely beautiful. From hiking the forests to connecting with local communities, to cruising through the Panama Canal — every moment was a reminder of how much there is to learn when we step outside our everyday.

FoodFluence 2026 was truly one for the books! ✨
