The truth is, sport used to be a huge component of my childhood. I was brought up by a basketball champion and, even though i had no particular attitude towards any sport, i was always pretty “sportsy”. I could kick the ball, hit the ball, stop the ball, pass the ball, either with my hands or feet, with my head or chest. I didn’t love to watch sports on tv though, I used to say I supported Inter or Federer, but couldn’t stay still for a sec in front of the tv except from those times when we played world cups or european cups in soccer. I could run on the beach, ski up in the mountains, and swim in the sea. I could do basically anything, but I was really really average at everything. I used to wonder why any time I played a new sport, I could master the basics in like two seconds, three times faster than any other boy or girl, but jesus i never excelled. Maybe, but just *maybe* I now think that if this young man had been the champ that he is when i was a kid, then maybe I would have found the motivation and the inspiration to find my sport, my calling, stick with it through and through, and be finally glad i’d found my purpose. Never mind that this is just a game of “ifs” because irl time travel isn’t a thing and that i voluntarily omitted that my back has made me kind of a cripple for all my childhood and girlhood, but hey let me dream the dream. Let me be a child and be inspired but what a good lad with a modest background has done by simply finding his calling and developing at a surprisingly young age a really decent work ethic. I guess we’ll never know wether i would have simply been just an average tennis player like millions of others, or if maybe, even though average, i could have been happier.
