I had the best time participating in the 2026 IIDA Student Design Charette and attending NeoCon in Chicago last week. Representing the University of Tennessee, Knoxville’s College of Interior Architecture, I collaborated with talented students from across the country. In just 4.5 hours, our team designed and presented “The Collective,” a new office concept for MillerKnoll’s Fulton Market office.

NeoCon and Design Days was such a valuable experience, and I learned so much from the competition, showroom tours, and the people I met throughout the week. I’m grateful for the opportunity! #neocon #iidastudentcharette #iida

Learning, exploring, and finding inspiration at NeoCon>>>

Three IA Collaborative members, Haley Onwiler, Sophia Knasel, and Emma Hartman, recently represented the University of Tennessee at NeoCon in Chicago! Over three days, they connected with industry professionals, toured showrooms, and participated in the IIDA Design Charette.

Congratulations to Sophia and her team for earning 1st place in the Design Charette and representing UTK!🧡

IARC 276: The Shape of Waiting
I am excited to share photos from my final review today! This project pushed me out of my comfort zone, challenged me, and shaped me into a stronger designer. I am so thankful to all of my reviewers today and their feedback as well as thankful for my professor, David Matthews, who challenged me and pushed me to become a stronger, more confident, and more intentional designer! I gained such a global perspective from this studio and now have a deeper appreciation of both Appalachian and Japanese cultures. I will be sharing cataloged items from my project soon🤓✏️💻

This week four of our students headed to Dallas for the International Interior Design Association SHIFT Conference and made the most of every moment. From competing in a design charrette at @ofs_texas , learning from top professionals, exploring the future of interior design to touring @haworthinc , @tilebar , and @corganinc this week was full of inspiration. We are so grateful to everyone who supported and welcomed us throughout this experience. Thank you for having us!

🪢Entwine, IARC 275, Remnants of Memory
I am so excited to share some pieces of my project! Entwine is an adaptive reuse project of the Phillis Wheatley Home for Girls located in the south side of Chicago. Our studio began by conducting intensive research into the surrounding area, women’s history, social movements, and architectural precedents. Based on our research, I chose to design a story telling museum, community kitchen, and intergenerational housing facility. These programs combined with Wheatley’s poetry led me to design the spaces with a ribbon like circulation that acts as an architectural thread; tying together culture and community within the building. Learning about how to make meaningful, positive impacts in the community over the past semester was a truly rewarding experience and I’m eager to carry my knowledge into the future!

Serving as President of @ia_collaborative has been one of the most meaningful chapters of my life! These past four years have shaped me in ways I’ll never forget—because of the people, the purpose, and the passion we shared.

To the executive board: your brilliance made this all possible. And to @katie_olinger26 —what a year it’s been. I’m endlessly proud of what we continued to build together!

Our 2025 TAAST week was a huge success! We loved seeing the college come together to make this week so special, with events such as makers marts, trivia, professional workshops, lectures, and our beaux’s arts ball! We already can’t wait for next year’s TAAST week!

Thank you to all of the student organizations that worked to put this together: @utknomas @ia_collaborative @aigautk @aias_utk @fbd_utk Tau Sigma Delta and ASLA. Special thanks to @utkcoad for making this whole week possible!
