@thisisnaek When Congolese Roots Meet Neo-Soul Artist, songwriter, producer, and artistic director, Naëk crafts a musical universe in her own image: intimate, free, and deeply rooted in her Congolese heritage. Originally from Kinshasa, she defines her music as "Congo Neo-Soul," a fusion of traditional Congolese sounds, R&B, and contemporary Neo-Soul. This signature style allows her to express identity, vulnerability, and often-suppressed emotions in a new way. Her journey is also one of transformation. After studying film and theater in New York and then Los Angeles, a major health crisis at the age of 21 forced her to reinvent her creative process. From her hospital bed, she learned music production using BandLab and then Logic Pro. It was during this difficult period that Naëk, the artist, truly emerged. With her single "Mountain," written in 2024, she reached a significant milestone. The song became a reflection of a journey marked by resilience, introspection, and the desire to transform personal experiences into music. Her ambition now extends beyond her own career: to promote a new vision of Congolese music internationally, without denying her roots. She dreams of a space where a new generation of artists can create freely, beyond established norms. For her future collaborations, NAËK mentions Lokua Kanza, Fally Ipupa, Aṣa, Tems, Yseult, and Adele—artists she admires for their sensitivity, authenticity, and ability to transform the personal into the universal. Her message to the new generation is simple: "Don't wait for someone to give you a place, create your own." With NAËK, Congolese music doesn't just look to its heritage. I wrote ‘Mountain’ in LA back in 2024, I lived in my studio apartment and had a beautiful desk where I’d hand hang my mic up to record some vocals on bandlab. Then when I moved back home in Kinshasa, I started working with the incredible @jiguerdmakano who helped bring the rest of the song to life 🤍 The process wasn’t linear, I had finalized at least 20 other songs before this one, but this one hit me differently, this one was personal, deep. Story time next week?
