Can you love God and still challenge the teachings of the Church? Absolutely!
In our latest episode of A Faith & HIV Discussion, Dr. @iamdrelise , a Black faith leader and woman who identifies as a lesbian, shares her powerful perspective on deconstructing the teachings of the Church, questioning long-held beliefs, and finding the courage to speak truth about the harm religious traditions have caused.
For generations, many of us were taught what to believe, who to love, and what God supposedly condemns. But what happens when those teachings no longer align with our understanding of God’s love?
Dr. Saulsberry reminds us that questioning the Church does not mean abandoning God. Sometimes, it means having the courage to examine what we’ve been taught and separate faith from fear, judgment, and exclusion.
This is a conversation the Black Church cannot afford to keep avoiding, especially when silence and stigma continue to affect LGBTQ+ people and those living with HIV.

Healthy relationships should help young people grow, not be afraid. Dating violence does not suddenly begin in adulthood. Controlling behavior, extreme jealousy, isolation, threats, sexual pressure, constant monitoring, and possessiveness can show up in teenage relationships too.
The research highlighted in today’s graphic is sobering: in one national study of adolescent intimate partner homicides, 90% of the identified victims were girls, and nearly 90% of perpetrators were male. We can help young people recognize the difference between love and control, protection and possession, attention and surveillance.
At Remnant Community Outreach, we believe prevention means creating spaces where young people can ask questions, identify unhealthy behaviors, develop boundaries, and know they will be believed when something does not feel safe. We have trainings for youth at schools, churches, community organizations, etc. to educate youth on domestic and intimate partner violence.
💜 Take controlling behavior seriously.
💜 Listen without judgment.
💜 Remind young people that jealousy is not proof of love.
💜 Make sure they know where to turn for help.
Young people deserve relationships where they are safe to grow, safe to speak, and safe to become who they are. #enddomesticviolence #youth #nofear #nocontrol
