A heartfelt thank you to the La Femme International Film Festival for selecting the Director’s Cut of my beloved “Sicilian Holiday”, which was screened last night in Budapest.

Watching this film again was a deeply cathartic experience. Seeing the characters of a story I wrote, directed, and produced alongside @adamleipzig @rai_cinema and so many extraordinary colleagues reminded me of something precious: we were never just making a film. We were a family.

Giant thank you to @maxleo70 for creating the look of our precious film and @massitrevis for the enchanting cinematography.

My gratitude goes to every member of this incredible cast and crew, especially @lillyenglert Claudia Gerini, Tony Schiena, Francesco Leone, Ivo Romagnoli, Nicoleta Nucă, Lee Levi, Nunzio Bertolani, Felix Maximilian, Fuchsia Kate Sumner, Rintintin, all the children, Maestro Catanzaro, and everyone who poured their heart into this journey.

And among the film’s greatest stars, I must thank Sciacca itself. More than a location, more than a backdrop, Sciacca became a living soul within the story—its beauty, its warmth, its people, its light. It was not merely where Sicilian Holiday was filmed; it was one of its most unforgettable protagonists.

But above all, this film belongs to him.

My best friend.

The man to whom this film is dedicated.

An extraordinary human being, an extraordinary actor, and a friend loved by everyone: Rocco Ancarola.

I cried watching the film again.
I cried watching him.
I cried knowing he is no longer here.

And then, after the rain that accompanied the screening, as we stepped out of the cinema, a magnificent rainbow appeared above us—bright, vibrant, joyful, impossible to ignore.

And there he was.

Just as always.

The sign I had been waiting for.

The gentle reminder that happiness is never truly lost.

Thank you, Budapest.
Thank you, La Femme.
Thank you, Sciacca.
Thank you, my friends.

And thank you, Rocco. 🌈❤️

Honored and deeply grateful to La Femme International Film Festival USA for selecting Sicilian Holiday for the inaugural European edition of the festival in Budapest.

This film is incredibly close to my heart. It is a story I wrote and directed with profound love for my adopted land, Sicily — a tribute to its beauty, contradictions, humanity and spirit.

From the very beginning, I wanted this project to become a meeting point between artists and friends from different parts of the world whom I deeply admire, creatively and personally. And I am endlessly thankful to every one of them for bringing their talent, trust and soul to this journey.

Led by the luminous and incredibly talented Lilly Englert from the United States, the film also brought together extraordinary artists from across the world: Fuschia Kate Sumner from England, Nicoletta Nuca from Romania, Lee Levi from Denmark, Felix Maximilian from Germany, Claudia Gerini, Francesco Leone, Ivo Romagnoli and many wonderful talents from Italy and beyond.

Sicilian Holiday will screen on June 5th at 6 PM, and I could not be more excited to present the film for the very first time in Eastern Europe, in a city like Budapest — a crossroads of cultures, beauty, art, and extraordinarily generous people.

Thank you to the festival for supporting stories by women, for everyone, and for continuing — for over 22 years — to create space for powerful and meaningful cinema.

See you in Budapest. ✨🎬

“Sicilian Holiday” team!!! Let’s celebrate our star @lillyenglert as it’s her birthday today!

Lils: you are the gift! Directing you will always be the most precious treasure and singing with you, the most atrocious crime! We are never going to be forgiven, by the way.

Enjoy your day special creature and remember our motto: today is another day to screw it up! Don’t miss the opportunity.

All the Love,
Miks and the “Sicilian Holiday” crew

Attore siciliano, classe ’96. La sua passione per la recitazione si è concretizzata nel 2015, quando ha partecipato come comparsa nel film di Luca Guadagnino, “A Bigger Splash”, girato a Pantelleria.
