A quiet weekend at the edge of early autumn,
the wind holding its breath.

With old friends, we wandered
back into that sheltered wild.

Mushrooms clinging to the trunk of an ancient tree,
spaced apart, each one breathing in its own place.
Others rose, unbothered, from ground
still damp with last night's dew.
A little further on, the grass had dried completely,
quietly breathing out the scent of autumn.

Sunlight slipped gently through breaks in gray clouds,
and behind it, a clear autumn sky unfolded.

A season changes only once, and only for a moment.
In the middle of it all,
my work, too, came back to life.
