Kojo Kay is one of our favourite artists here at the Unsigned BC clubhouse, and his latest single RIGHT HERE is a welcome follow-up to his

June EP THIS DOESN’T FEEL GOOD BEING STUCK HERE IN THE SAME SPOT :(

Never one to bow to genre norms, RIGHT HERE finds Kojo experimenting with the boundaries of a typical single. The track clocks in at well under 2 minutes, and doesn’t include a clearly defined verse-chorus pattern. Like an intricately painted marble or a musical Möbius strip, it’s impossible to pinpoint just where the song begins and ends. Simply put, it’s all groove.

On paper, this might sound experimental and wacky, but blasting from speakers, it’s a guaranteed dance-floor packer. Droning synth lines and a thumping drum beat keep the vibe flowing, while Kojo’s Weekend-esque vocal lines shade the whole piece with a melancholy musical colour.

Kojo is one of Vancouver’s most innovative young writer-producers, and he’s pulled off a great stunt here: an experimental hip-hop number that reads like a Top 40 hit. Give it a spin, and hear it for yourself!

With “MORETHINK," @iamkojokay turns the experience of overthinking, overanalyzing, and living with social anxiety into a deeply relatable musical reflection.

If you’re a hip-hop fan in Vancouver, do yourself a favour and stream some Kojo Kay tracks. Lyrically suave and criminally underrated, his original tracks incorporate retro and modern flavours from hip-hop, R&B, rap, and beyond. His latest release, MORETHINK, functions as a perfect crash course on his sound: Post Malone inspired vocal processing, unpredictable sample sounds that could’ve easily been cooked up by Kanye himself (OG pre-butterfly net Kanye, that is), and earth-shaking hip-hop beats. It’s no surprise, either — citing My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy and Shut Up & Drive as two of his favourite albums, Kojo Kay takes that 2000s signature sound and gives it a 2026 makeover.

The perfect soundtrack for a brooding midnight drive through Sin City (or just Downtown Vancouver, if you’re habitually broke like me), MORETHINK rolls along with a rebellious swagger, weaving in plenty of melodic motifs to keep even the humblest pop fan (again, like me) hooked from start to finish. Next time you get ahold of the aux cable, blast some Kojo Kay!
