The story behind palmwine paper

Palmwine Paper has been a long time coming.

For a while, I kept thinking about what it would look like to build a space around the things I’m naturally curious about people, culture, style, places, ideas and all the little details that make something worth paying attention to.

I spent a long time thinking about starting it. Wondering if it was the right time, if I was ready, if I could actually build something that felt like mine.

Eventually, I realised there probably isn’t a perfect time.

So I started.

Palmwine Paper is a space for stories worth your attention - rooted in Nigeria, looking across Africa and wherever African culture travels.

This is about observing, questioning, documenting and telling stories with intention.

And before we get into everything Palmwine Paper will become, I wanted to start by telling you why it exists.

Few days ago, I had the pleasure of attending the premiere of Sweet 16, and it was such a beautiful evening celebrating film, creativity and Nollywood.

From getting ready and stepping onto the red carpet to taking in the atmosphere, meeting amazing people and finally settling in for the movie, it was definitely a night to remember. The decorations were on point, the energy was amazing and there were so many familiar faces around.

I also loved being able to experience the whole premiere atmosphere there’s just something special about watching a film surrounded by the people who brought it to life. 🤍

I’m keeping the movie details spoiler-free, so you’ll have to stay tuned to see it in the cinema. 👀🎬

The Glow Circle- an extension of ITGlow and a space to thrive, speak and create. On Saturday the 9th of May, the vision of my team and I came into fruition. An emotional moment for me.

From the breathing exercises led by myself, to the coloring session sponsored by @relaks.coo, to the therapy session about self compassion led by @ibii.ayo and the elegant @funmto , to the products given by @mylabafrica

It was a space, a haven, a community. So much effort was put into this project and I can only be grateful for all that is about to come. @itglow.co is here to stay, people don’t realize they need to sit with their thoughts or be in a community until they find themselves within one.

Thank you to everyone who took part, sponsored and ensured this was a success. And cheers to more. If you would like to join the community; a waitlist would be released and the community platform would be ready soon.

one year ago today, we performed ‘Love is Like a Butterfly’. i debated how to frame this post. is this a story of triumph or of doggedness? is this a story of the things that could’ve gone wrong or the things we did regardless? really, i think this is a story of the really special human beings that made this happen. i couldn’t have asked for a better team. they’re doing a special thing again on the 17th of may, this time as writers , directors, choreographers, stage managers etc & if you missed Love is Like a Butterfly, don’t make the same mistake again by missing the Play Palette. one night, five plays, tickets through the link in my bio!
