Spent the afternoon listening to Perris Jones share his story and remind us that, while every athlete’s journey may look different, the mental fitness tools that help us navigate it will continue to serve us long after our last play. From Next Play Mentality and Healthy Delusion to Positive Self-Talk and the Privilege of Pressure, we could go on and on. Petersburg, VA- On September 19, 100+ student athletes at Petersburg High School and Vernon Johns Junior High School had the opportunity to learn viable information from key contributors in the Petersburg Community.

Tiffany Jones got the day started with an inspirational message to encourage the athletes to look inside themselves. Then Dr. Wes Bellamy, DaVonni Parker, Dr. Tiffany Gullins , Ed Riley, DuVaughan Maxwell, and Sarad Davenport lead the breakout sessions where students learned about college acceptance, future choices, personal belief, networking, investing, and personal responsibility. Athletes came back to the gym where they enjoyed lunch provided by the Team Loaded Foundation consisting of Pizza Hut Pizza or boxed lunches from Zaxby's. To end the day, former UVA star running back and author Perris Jones hammered down the point of overcoming personal challenges, challenging family dynamics, and lack of support to become the best version of yourself.

To wrap up a great day of learning, networking, and great food, the student athletes had the opportunity to win prizes to show off their school spirit all year long.
