I’m really going to have to start taking group photos of The First Men before we’re all sunburned, tired, and smeared with red ochre…

But “adventure” is actually part of our founding myth and the full Fire Ritual itself. My work draws on Mircea Eliade’s “The Sacred and the Profane,” and the hike out into the wilderness is a process of separation between the profane world and the sacred, timeless, or mythic space.

It’s just some light backpacking, but there is also a symbolic element of shared suffering that brings a group of men together.

Members of The First Men from @theorderoffire traveled to Arizona for our annual event here. We trained jiu-jitsu with @vikingstrikingmma and our Marine Raider ran them through some dry fire drills.

Together, the Bvlls hiked out into the desert to perform our Fire Ritual, re-enacting the myth of The First Men from my book Fire in the Dark.

I’ve been around a lot of fires with a lot of men over the years. Often it is just men getting drunk and talking about mundane things, the news, or politics.

We talked about those things too, but so much of the conversation was at a much higher level. I just stood back and listened to the Bvlls talk about Homer, free will, maintaining a vital perspective (life is more than suffering), what mechanical work teaches you, leadership, and so many other points of practical philosophy late into the night.

I am grateful to have a group of such high quality men willing to put in the time and effort to create and be a part of something new.

My man @t.cole138 was there as well, but he was shooting a few lanes down, so we weren't able to get his sexy mullet in any pics or vids. In 2024 The Order of Fire’s First Men held 7 events from South Carolina to Tasmania. In 2025 we’ll be holding our 3rd annual Arizona event, and I’ll be meeting some of our European members in Rome or Florence this summer.

So many men say they wish something was different about culture or that there were better options for men, but the First Men are the guys willing to work to make that a reality.

They’ve put in the time and traveled great distances to do and be something different while other men make excuses.

Only I know how cool they are, because I’m the only one who has spoken to all of them. It’s my job to try to connect them with each other. Brilliant thinkers, athletes, craft and tradesmen, martial artists, athletes, musicians, trainers, entrepreneurs, fathers, veterans and first responders.

I hope to meet all of the Bvlls and the many men who will join our ranks in the future.

In 2024 we released our first printed journal. (The second is in the works.)

@caffeineandphilosophy and I hosted 48 Live Shows on YouTube. We worked through several important texts and ideas. Next year we’ll be focusing more on writing, and I’ll be starting a new book.

We already have some great energy going into 2025, with an emphasis on bringing more order to the Order. New teams, and of course a lot of the guys will be starting new projects and providing accountability for new goals and fitness programs.

Very much looking forward to seeing how much we can grow and what we can produce in the new year.

One of the aims of the Order of Fire is to produce a religious experience and a ritual re-ordering of the universe through ideas alone—based on the principle that men create meaning, order, and ideals in their own worlds.

Nothing in the world needs our names or meanings to exist.

Rocks, plants, and animals would still exist just as they were without our meanings, and different men give things different names all the time…things don’t mind.

Religious experience is part of the human experience, but can we have it without professing things we don’t believe to be true?

Can we create a rich and evocative culture based on the pieces of our culture and other cultures that inspire us most?

Can we synthesize something new instead of relying on the pretense that we’re resurrecting some ancient magic or tradition—and then just making things up anyway, as men always have?

Can we do it all consciously and honestly?

And can we do this to create order and light, for ourselves and for the people around us, in a dynamic and ever-changing world?

It’s a bold experiment.

The Order of Fire is in its third year.

In 2024 alone, our members gathered for events in mainland Australia, Arizona, South Carolina, California, West Virginia, and Tasmania.

I’ve watched many of our members grow as men and improve their own lives. Friendships have been formed over great and small distances by men who were willing to invest the time and travel.

There is so much potential for growth.

We like to think of ourselves as Freemasons in their early days.

We are currently accepting applications.
