Bathed in the golden glow of turmeric and laughter, my gaye holud became a canvas of love, tradition, and joy. Ma’s hands trembled ever so slightly as she applied the first touch of holud on my cheeks, her eyes glistening with blessings unspoken. Dadi followed, her wrinkled palms carrying the wisdom of generations, sealing the moment with her gentle caress. Friends cheered, families sang old Bengali wedding songs, and the Terrace filled with the aroma of freshly ground turmeric, shondesh, and flowers, huge 10 long ft Red Alpona. It wasn’t just a ritual - it was a celebration of bonds, of heritage, and of the beginning of my new journey, wrapped in the warmth of everyone I love.

It feels like stepping into a sepia postcard from late 80’s Calcutta. The Maidan stretches wide, the winter air crisp, and a pot of Darjeeling Tea rests on our small sitting carpet. We pour into delicate china cups, the aroma carrying whispers of an older city — of trams clanging, hand-pulled rickshaws rolling, and lovers strolling beneath the banyan trees. Between sips, we read each other stories from dog-eared books, laughing softly like the world belongs only to us. As the sun dips, the Victoria Memorial glows in a golden haze, standing regal and eternal, a silent witness to countless love stories — and now, to ours. In this timeless city, we are not just planning a wedding… we are living a chapter that could have been written decades ago.
