POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED

Venus is retrograde and in cazimi this weekend, held in the heart of the sun. While so many of us may go quiet and turn inward under this energy, we're turning toward the ones who came before.

Here at the Jambalaya Center it's always ancestors first, before any deity, before any primordial being. That's how our traditions teach it.

For nine days, sit with Chief Iyanifa Yeye Luisah Teish @luisahteish and our teachers as we explore what African Diaspora traditional religions teach about connecting with our ancestors.

Swipe for every day ➡️

Sat 10/24 · 3 PM · Opening: The Dumb Supper with Yeye
Sun 10/25 · 5 PM · Plant Ancestors with Queen Mother Iya Sobande Greer
Mon 10/26 · 5 PM · Full Moon Ritual with Yeye & Community
Tue 10/27 · 5 PM · Ancestor Shrine & Water Gazing with Yeye
Wed 10/28 · 5 PM · Creating Your Egun Staff with Chief Baba Akinrinola Greer
Thu 10/29 · 3:30 PM · Afro-Cuban Folkloric Dance for Oya with Valencia James
Thu 10/29 · 5 PM · Family Storytelling & Griot Cards with Griot Marion
Fri 10/30 · 5 PM · Vodun in New Orleans with Yeye
Sat 10/31 · Cemetery Sweep, in person in Oakland or at your own local cemetery, with Iya KawoGbemi & Shylah Hamilton-Touré
Sun 11/1 · 3 PM · Closing Ancestor Feast: drums, story & the Roll Call of the Ancestors
All times Pacific · on Zoom

$21.03 a day · $189.27 for all nine · pay what you can, no one turned away
Proceeds support the Sacred Land Campaign and our teachers.

🌿 Day 2 of the FREE online Herbal Medicine Making Summit is where it all starts to feel doable.

One woman wrote to us, “I want to grow my own, but I live in housing.”

You don't need acres or a beautiful garden to grow medicine. A windowsill and a pot is a great place to start.

If you're wanting some help understanding what you can grow where you live and what you can make from your own kitchen, today's sessions from Chris Outdoors (@wildmuskoka) and Tara Lanich-LaBrie (@themedicinecircle) may be exactly what you're looking for.

We're also tending our bodies today, including our nervous systems with Asia Suler (@asiasuler), cycles with Katie Brannock (@tealadykatie), and a movement break with Gabrielle Bonneville (@gabrielle_bonneville).

Missed yesterday? No worries, you get access to the replays until Oct 23rd with your free registration, or you can upgrade for lifetime access.

What calls you to herbalism?

✨For Seraphina Capranos (@seraphina.capranos), it was losing her ‘first patient’ when she was 20: her own father.

✨For Amish Shah (@thenobleking108), it was a health collapse after making close to $70 million in business.

✨For Iya Sobande Greer (@iamsobandeg), it was five generations of women with their hands in the dirt.

✨For Veladya Chapman (@theonlyveladya), it was a search for deeper meaning after walking away from Broadway at 22.

Swipe to hear each of them tell it in their own words.

Seraphina Capranos and Iya Sobande Greer are speaking live at the FREE Herbal Medicine Making Summit, which began today Oct 14 at 10am PT. Registration will also unlock all the sessions from last year for a limited time, including the full versions of the stories in this post.

➡️ We cannot heal our relationship with the Earth while believing we are separate from it.

In 5 days, the Herbalism Summit with @ecoversity begins, and it’s completely FREE to attend 😳

I’ve been invited to bring SOMANA™ movement into the mix, to help people move as the Earth, not simply talk about it.

Why? Because you cannot destroy what you truly understand yourself to be

Last year, 60,000 people joined. This year, we’re expecting even more.

Register for free through my link in bio below ⬇️and meet some of my favourite mentors, friends and community including @zachbushmd @davidkarr @tealadykatie

Here’s what you’ll experience 🙌

🌿 38 incredible experts sharing their knowledge of herbalism and the plant world.

🌿 Learn to make your own herbal medicines at home, including syrups, salves and oxymels!!

🌿 Discover the foundations of your own home apothecary and bring herbalism into your everyday life.

🌿 Reclaim practical knowledge to care for your health and deepen your relationship with medicinal plants.

🌿 Learn to move somatically as the Earth with me through SOMANA™.

🌿 Meet the leaders of the herbalism movement and learn from people dedicating their lives to reconnecting humanity with nature.

When we see the Earth as separate from ourselves, we perpetuate that separation through how we consume, extract, and treat the living world. That separation is suffering

Our relationship with the Earth begins with recognizing that we are part of it.

Through somatic practice, we explore that relationship through the body itself as the earth

🌿 I’ll be teaching on the 15th at 2 PM

Register here you crazy beautiful people ➡️

Things we wish school taught us:

How to do your taxes
How to change a tire
Where our food, water, and medicine come from

We memorized the periodic table and battle dates from the 1800s.

Most of us never learned that the Dandelion in the yard is both food and medicine.

As Seraphina Capranos (@seraphina.capranos) says, "This is knowledge every human deserves."

That’s why we’re so excited to invite you to our FREE online Herbal Medicine Making Summit from October 14 to 16. We're gathering 38 herbalists, medicine makers, clinicians, and teachers for three days of practical, inspiring sessions to bring more herbal medicine into your hands and home.

To be fair, we won't be covering finances or car maintenance. Maybe next time 😉
