You know the feeling when a novel is so exquisitely beautiful that it is difficult for you to cherry pick just a few favourite moments? This was just that novel for me!

Narrated as a stream of consciousness, Tishani Doshi stitches together a vivid and captivating tapestry of family dynamics, the misery of drifting aimlessly in life, and the gulf that gets carved out between home and a house.

Grace's life as the daughter of an Italian father and an Indian mother leaves her feeling adrift, unable to fully connect with any of her relatives. "I was always the bastard at the wedding, the stranger at the feast." The story beautifully captures the void that many biracial and single children carry throughout their lives. As a single child myself, I could relate to Grace's yearning to have a sibling. So, later when she meets Lucia, the sister her parents always hid due to her Down Syndrome, it's as if she's been handed a lifeboat, a second innings to carve out a meaningful life.

As I've mentioned earlier, the brilliant imagery and prose will tug at your heart. I loved the picturesque landscapes of Southern India, which capture Kodai, Pondicherry, Chennai, and Paramankeni. She also juxtaposes the thriving urban centres with their 'new rush of gold' against the stillness and tranquility of tiny coastal villages and towns - being plundered by the capitalistic forces, rendering farmers and fishermen to be victims. Very subtly, Tishani also brings up the caste violence, animal cruelty, and the patriarchy running amok in rural India.

What I loved perhaps is how beautifully carved out each character was - with their own set of idiosyncrasies, experiences, and emotions - whether it's her mangalkari-clad Christian-Hindu 'Amma' or her 'Papi', an exuberant potpourri of Italian optimism. The clashes of the culture and listless void created henceforth draw you into the story. My only regret might be that although I loved reading this book, I had difficulty connecting with the character of Grace - while I understood her dilemma, I had a hard time feeling the pain.

Hey fellas! How's the weekend?

Don't know about yours, but my book club #attackthetbr made sure, that all its member should do some shelf cleaning.

Because they started this #bookstackchallenge , so we have to take books out from shelves, click them and then put it back. So why not some dusting first😄.

Well, @readingwithprachi and @attackthattbr this is my book stacks.
Also, I am not exaggerating but this is just one third of my collection, excluding the books from my maternal uncle's home library.

It was fun though, I tried to include as many books I can. But end up with these little bundles only. @_ink_and_fables thank you darling for your igtv videos. I was already editing my pictures from @mobile_photography_snapseed and @picsart , but your videos were helpful; as I was earlier using only limited functions😄.

How's the pictures guyz? I have one more from different angle too,but it's so nice I didn't put it into slide, rather kept it for other time.

You all can also do it, show how many books you have🌈

Hello fellow Bookstagrammers! I was tagged to do the #booksbeforebookstagram tag by @the.hungry.reader @theobvious.mystery 💛

These questions really sent me down the memory lane and made me feel nostaglic. I have further tagged a few of you to answer the following questions and relive the magic that had initially drawn you towards reading. :')
.
Q. When did you start reading?
I started reading quite early in my childhood. In the early years of my life when I was 6 or 7 years old, I used to read comics and magazines such as "Bal Bhaskar" (Hindi) which used to come along with the Dainik Bhaskar newspaper. At the age of 10, I fell in love with my school library and used to be extremely happy whenever there was library period in our timetable. So, at the age of around 10, I fell in love with proper books.

Q. What was the first book you read?
I don't actually remember the first book I read but it must either have been The Adventures of Tom Sawyer or Huckleberry Finn by Mark Twain or one the Secret Seven books by Enid Blyton.

Q. Where did you get book recommendations?
During the early years into reading, I used to pick those books from my library which appealed to me on the basis of the blurb and the recommendations of my teachers and the librarian. Later on as technology entered into our lives and almost all of us had access to the internet, I started using goodreads to help me pick my next read and build by TBR.

Q. Which books were your favourite?
Fiction and mythology. Some of them being, Vikram aur Betaal, The Mahabharata, The Adventures of Tom Sawyer, The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn, The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes, Great Expectations and of course, Harry Potter :D

Q. What changed after you joined bookstagram?
Joining Bookstagram has not only made me fall in love with books more but it has also made me more creative in terms of photography. It has been a major source of book recommendations for me and last but not the least, I love interacting with like minded people on this extremely positive community who love books as much as I do.
.
If you've reached the end of this post, (seriously) consider yourself tagged too in case I have missed tagging you :)

I remember a time when bookstagram tags are quite popular and fun. I don't know why they went out of trend. So my dear friend @georgireads tagged me to do a #tenonmytbr and this ten bookish question post long ago. And i thought i haven't posted in a while so here it goes. .
Step 1, the TBR pile: What you see here is the few books i brought from home and also some of the books i bought here in banglore. I have a larger pile stacked at home. .
.
Step 2, the questions:

How do you choose the books you read?
-It's quite complicated, it depends on my mood, mostly it's on whim. Sometimes i plan the whole month's TBR. It depends on how excited i am to read a book. Or if i have someone to readalong the book with. .
.
Do you buy books online?
-Mostly, yes. Or otherwise from a second hand bookstore. I always have my wishlist ready but i always tend to deviate from it. .
.
Do you buy books before finishing another?
-I used to have strict policy of not buying books before finishing the most of the one i own. But things changed last year where i bought books in bulk. But still stacks of unread books on my shelf give me anxiety. .
.
What time of day do you usually read?
-Usually before sleeping. I will try to squeeze reading time here and there now, in lunvh time at office and during commute. .
.
Favourite genre?
-Well it's changing as i am growing up. For now it's magical realism. Sad books. Stories which make me feel much more than i generally do. .
.
Favourite author?
-You must know this if you are following me from while. Salinger bring joy and sadness to my life. Marquez make me believe in magic. Murakami taught me that i belong.
.
.
Do you lend books?
-This is a strict no no. Unless you are from family or a really really close friend.
.
.
How long does it take you to finish a book?
-Depends on many many factors. How free am i? How long the book is. How invested i am in the book. But generally in vacations i will wrap a normal length book in 3-4 days. And in normal busy days it's around a week.

I have been reading excerpts of Bukowski's writings for almost 3 years now. Find what you love and let it kill you: the line that has a colossal amount of motivation with a tinge of the ultimate truth-for all other things are really going to kill you, maybe slowly or maybe not; still remains my favourite.

The love of my life aka the curly haired bookdragon aka mere ko sane rakhne waali @iamthebookbug made my life by sending me my first ever Bukowski. A physical copy! I can't express how much I love her. We hardly talk for days, we don't chat, she has stopped sending those beautiful mails, but I know the second I am down with something, she's is the first one I'll call to vent out. Prash, you're the pixie dust in my life 🌠❤️
