🚴‍♂️💬 “You don’t ‘find yourself’ on trips like this, you build yourself.”

Tough roads, relentless weather, and sleepless nights. Three friends, one guest, and a journey that pushed through mountains, plains, and beyond. The question is… will this mystery ride be featured at the London Mountain Film Festival? 🎥 👀

Castle Combe Easter Classic…

Fun to shoot some photos at a bike race, fun to watch the lads put the hurt on someone other than me for once 🥲. Notoriously the windiest course ever, on the windiest day ever. Hats (literally blown) off to all those who raced 😮‍💨.

“You don’t ‘find yourself’ on trips like this, you build yourself”.
Wise words uttered by Tim as we lugged our tired and sodden carcasses across the northern reaches of France. The fourth in the ‘Velo’ bikepacking series by Friction Collective, Velo Iberia sees 3 mates and a guest appearance fly to Porto, Portugal and cycle the entire 2700km back home to Bristol, UK. Crossing the soggy Portuguese hills, into the barren plains of northern Spain and across the frankly daunting Pyrenees, the journey was fraught with mechanicals, lack of sleep, belly laughs, frozen bivvy spots and incredible scenery. By far our hardest journey so far, this is Velo Iberia.
Now available on @frictioncollective YouTube - we’ll also put the link in our Stories.

VELO IBERIA - Remember the heatwave that spread across Europe in 2022? The heatwave that broke the day we flew to Porto, bringing cold temps and rain storms across the continent… well we remember 😂🙄 I know I post about cycling a lot here. But this one really changed a lot of perspectives in life for me. Tim put it perfectly ‘you don’t find yourself, you build yourself’. I’m not one for hippy dippy live love laugh shit, but spending 3 weeks pushing your body to its limits, sleeping on the ground, travelling across countries and mountain ranges, it really helped put life into perspective in a beautiful way. I’m really quite proud of what we achieved and I made a film which tracks the journey, the link is in my bio 🎥 🚲

As advertised - a nice week in Mallorca.

Solid week of riding with a solid group of guys. Weather was (mostly) lovely*, chat was (mostly) good, legs are mostly fucked now. Form soon come.

*see one day of biblical rain and a freezing hailstorm in the mountains. Had to raid a bin to find cardboard to stick down the jerseys for a descent. Pete wore a bin bag. It was quite funny after it stopped being a genuine threat to life.

Good 100km group ride out to Monmouth and back. Decent wintery hack that.
