The @exhaciendaguadalupeoax, built as a convent in 1760, served as the venue for our ❎ Aniversario event. Located 40 minutes from downtown Oaxaca in San Jerónimo Tlacochahuaya, the hacienda is a spectacular residence and showroom showing off the best in Oaxacan design. Luckily, our friend @elfredjimenez happened to be close with the owners and was responsible for organizing their events. We arrived early to ensure all the final details were in place. Once set, we spent time together in the changeroom assembling our ofrendas and getting dressed for the first part of the event. @chitarah, our close friend and well-renowned DJ, began her sound test. @espinacca tied our paliacates as @christiansarubi set up the ceremony circle. To each we are forever indebted in friendship. We received notice that the buses were on their way. Nervously, we made one last check and headed outside and shut the doors. Our goal was to slowly lead our guests through the experiences we had set up over the next 14 hours, surprising them along the way. Our Oaxaca disco-themed event was about to begin! As the buses arrived, we were thrilled to see all our guests had taken the event’s theme to heart and had come decked out in local clothing and disco attire. The local band began playing traditional music. We handed out custom paliacates. Drinks were served on the outside patio. When everyone had arrived, we rang the hacienda’s bell, welcomed everyone to our event, and opened the main doors, inviting everyone in. As our guests made their way inside, they were wowed by the beauty of the hacienda’s inner courtyard, the simple Oaxacan settings, and the traditional decoration of sparkly tiras and candles. @chitarah set the mood with disco music. For lunch, the best mole in Oaxaca from @mokalli_tlacolula was served. The mezcal and XX beer were flowing. The music was pumping. As the sun went down people began to dance- the party had begun. The mood was energetic and the vibes were happening. Everyone was getting into the mood on the dance floor… Suddenly, the hacienda’s bells rang out. The music stopped. Nothing could have prepared our guests for what happened next… (Lots more to follow…)
