Despite poor conditions in the week the weather was kind to the 10 @swindon_wheelers taking on the Swindon Road Club & SWCC WTTA Hardriders event on the U871 yesterday.

Some very strong riding from the field and a podium for Road Captain @fraserjoyce who came 3rd in the men’s road bike category and a silver for @cozza1984 in the women’s TT cat.

Special thanks to all the Marshalls who make these events possible, @thecupcakerywiltshire for the delicious cupcakes and the Wheelers who came out to support the race 🙌🏻

Yesterday was rescue day!

Ian, one of the volunteers shared this amazing story with us. Not all heroes wear cape 💪🏼🐶💕 Me, a cycling friend and a photographer were in the Vilafranca region to take some photos, we were driving up a hill, turned a corner and saw a black pit bull type dog walking in the road, I parked up nearby and the photographer ran back to it. He then returned, holding his finger, saying the dog had bit him!

The 3 of us all went back where the dog had gone under the barrier and had slid down some loose earth where he laid down. He looked very sad, frail and scared.
One thing we all decided was we weren't going to leave him. He was out of sight and very weak. We managed to give him the little water we had. We decided to call the police, who said they'd send someone out (they never came after more than an hour had passed) We then flagged down another cyclist, Albert, who had an energy bar that we broke up and managed to feed him. Albert said he knew someone, I presume from a dog shelter, he called her and they arrived in about 30 minutes.
They bought with them water and bowl of dog biscuits which he scoffed down! He managed to get back up again to the road, I'm sure he knew we were all his friends, after another 15 minutes, the girls manged to get him in their car, he even started wagging his tail, it was do beautiful to see. The transformation in him in just 24 hours is unbelievable, you can see what a loving dog he is. He's now in a Foster home when hopefully a forever home can be found for him.
