The best receiving catchers in Division I college baseball by SLAA in the 2026 season.

SLAA stands for Strikes Looking Above Average. It measures the total number of called strikes a catcher generated compared to the number of called strikes expected based on the pitches they received. In simple terms: Actual Called Strikes − Expected Called Strikes.

2026 D1 SLAA Leaders:

1. Ryder Helfrick — Arkansas: 177.93 SLAA
2. Manny Garza — Tennessee Tech: 140.53
3. Austin Fawley — Ole Miss: 121.73
4. Ryan Tayman — Cal Poly: 111.70
5. Ian Armstrong — Saint Mary’s: 107.95
6. Deiten Lachance — Oklahoma: 106.02
7. Brody Williams — Kent State: 105.83
8. Deacon Bowne — Bucknell: 104.85
9. Hederick Torres — Jackson State: 98.80
10. Trevian Martinez — UC San Diego: 95.66

SLAA, along with SL+ are two advanced statistics that can help quantify receiving performance. SLAA measures the total number of strikes gained above expectation, while SL+ measures called-strike performance on a rate basis, with 100 representing the expected baseline.

Elite receiving has always been difficult to quantify. That’s why we’re building the MOVE Catching Sensor — bringing objective data into the equation.

Join the early access list to be among the first to receive the MOVE Catching Sensor. (link in bio)
