The GALPAL Collective is excited to announce, as part of our Writers Club: Meet the Alumni event, we’ll be presenting two special panels bringing together creatives working across writing and filmmaking in Ireland. Our panel hosted by Rebecca Fisher will focus on screenwriting and building a career as a writer in Ireland, offering insight into developing your craft, finding opportunities, getting your work made and navigating the industry. Our very own Writers Club Facilitator Ian Fallon will be chatting with some of our Writers Club alumni, talking about their experience in the programme and what they’ve been up to since! Join us for an evening of conversation, insight and connection as we hear from creatives at different stages of their journeys and share the lessons, challenges and opportunities that come with building a career in the Irish screen industry. Writers Club is a collaborative programme between The GALPAL Collective and The National Talent Academies for Film & Television. Earlier this month I had the opportunity to participate in the amazing starGAZE mentorship programme with @gazefilmfest alongside some amazing Irish queer filmmakers with such a diverse range of styles and perspectives. Thanks so much to @samfornow @evn_hrn and @nationaltalentacademies for organising the week, facilitating all the amazing workshops and speakers, was extremely helpful for me as a filmmaker and has me really excited for what I want to do next. Also had such a laugh with all my fellow starsdivas @aileen__yxz @thomaspurdy1708 @rossodonnellan @shannonhaly @cobryscobobrn Would highly recommend for any upcoming queer filmmaker to apply! the connections and knowledge I got was invaluable. And well done to the GAZE team for an amazing festival yet again, having been to a lot of queer film festivals internationally I can say it really is one of the most tightly curated, bespoke and audience focused and always is seamlessly run and really high standard. Thanks to @babsdaly for all the fab photos!!!!

Some weeks resist summary. These in Dublin were of that kind — demanding, luminous, and unexpectedly moving. I spent them teaching a masterclass in personal and experimental filmmaking, with a group of artists drawn from Ireland and from Denmark, Romania and the United Kingdom. What passes between people in such a room is not technique; technique can be written down. It is closer to a manner of attending — to duration, to the opacity of an image, to what a frame withholds. Together we made a single film, composed by many hands, no part of it belonging to anyone alone. Authorship dissolved into the work, which may be the only honest condition for it. To have worked with them was an honour I do not hold lightly. Many thanks also to Bob Gallagher. At the Light House Cinema I presented A Decade of Cinema, a video essay assembled from ten years of looking. And to move again through Dublin’s art, film and experimental film communities — to watch, to argue, to sit late with people for whom the image is a serious matter — was a pleasure of a rarer kind. I also spent time with my Experimental Film Society family, filmmakers beside whom I have worked for many years. Fidelity of that duration is rare, and I do not take it for granted. We parted with plans: films to be made, collaborations to be built, work that will take its own time to arrive. I am already turning back toward Dublin.

🎬✨ What a wonderful few days at @gazefilmfest! ✨🎬 Pictured here is our starGAZE alumni meet-up, where we were delighted to bring together so many past participants alongside our newest cohort to celebrate the third year of starGAZE. One of the most valuable parts of starGAZE is the community that continues long after the programme ends. Building a network of peers, collaborators, and friends is invaluable at every stage of a career, and we’re proud that this incredible group will always be part of the starGAZE .  From networking and industry panels to inspiring conversations, development sessions, and, of course, so many fantastic screenings, it was an unforgettable festival. Next, our 2026 starGAZE cohort begins the next chapter of their journey as they embark on their one-to-one mentorships. We can’t wait to see where the programme takes them. 🎬 A huge congratulations and thank you to GAZE, @samfornow, @evn_hrn & @townmice for another brilliant edition of the festival, and for continuing to champion LGBTQIA+ filmmakers and create a space where talent, creativity, and community can thrive. 💜🏳️‍🌈 The National Talent Academy for Film & TV Drama is an initiative of @screenireland, managed by @ardan_ie
