📍 Chiloquin, OR Summer 2024 Project Recap!

Last summer 290 volunteers completed 11 home repair projects and 3 community projects in Chiloquin, including:

🔨 280' of fencing
🔨 3 sets of stairs
🔨 Railing repair
🔨 Painted a house
🔨 4,000 pounds of material removed from a residence
🔨 Installed an awning over a ramp SSP built in 2018
🔨 Repainted bleachers, picnic tables, and front entrance of the rodeo grounds
🔨 Shed for sports equipment storage at the high school
🔨 Shed for storage at the Chiloquin Cares Food Pantry

One day a week was dedicated to partnering with Oregon State Parks at Collier Memorial State Park. Volunteers removed downed trees and dry brush caused by the 242 Fire in 2020, expanding the day use area accessible for visitors. They also cleared 7,000' of barbed wire to restore wildlife migration routes. In total, SSP volunteers were able to save rangers about 10 weeks of work. 🎉

📢 Stay tuned for our summer 2025 community partner announcement later today!

SSP’s Youth Advisory Council (YAC) had a blast gathering at their annual retreat the last weekend of January.

This year, the council stayed at the @hipointmontaralighthouse and worked on a beach clean-up to serve the local area. Together, the 14 youth and 3 advisors spent a half day visiting four beaches to pick up trash, keeping our beautiful coasts clean!

Of course, it wouldn’t be an SSP experience without fun and thoughtful conversations. The council also spent time bonding over games, home-cooked meals, and discussions about SSP’s programs and future.

Check out highlights from the retreat weekend and follow the Youth Advisory Council at @SSPyac to see what they are up to this spring and summer!
