31 today… Sheeeeeesh!

I have insane looking bandana sunburn, but we love it.

Life is beautiful, crazy & short -
Be nice, be grateful, surround yourself with good people & eat fruit for breakfast.

P.S. Ignore the Yankees top. I’m Mets through & through, that shit was forced upon me. X

🌱GROW YOUR OWN🌱
Over the past year,I’ve been learning more about gardening, growing food & also spending quality time with Queen Mamma.
👏🏾This said, big shout out to the gardeners I know, as this ish is h.a.r.d (Alex, Ian x 2).🛤We’re still at the start of it all,but I know that this is an area of importance to me.
📚It’s funny,I loved learning about food & the global growing communities back when I worked at Slow Food in Italy.I had the chance to help on impactful events & meet icons like Vandana Shiva (food activist & seed saver) pushing with all her might against GMO, & Michael Pollan (he features in the epic Fantastic Funghi doc) whose book ‘Omnivores Dilemma’ changed my life at the time &really got me looking into food systems, food sovereignty, supply chain &seasonality.
✈️Back in London,I did continue to learn about nature & food systems here,I even did a little wildlife design course back when I was doing lots with the BTCV (Green Gym). 🕳But then,I got caught up in new jobs, ‘I’m so busy,’ staying afloat, paying rent & kinda lost myself in the matrix grind, city life & promoting parties -silly ol’ me🙈.
💃🏻I had fun & enjoyed it (I did do some wwoofing in a lavendar farm in Provence though, which was great),but coming back to this garden has brought me home, to a place I’m most at peace &curious in🐮.
🥬We began phase one of growing food, not from seed just yet, as we were late in the (crappy) season 🌧 by the time the raised beds were in &we wanted to understand the process, soil, weather &other demands first. We’ve tested: lettuce (red oak & green), spinach🌱, carrots🥕, rainbow chard🌈 (Summer highlight), toms🍅(blight got it),spring onions🧅, radish, rhubarb, broccoli🥦(due in spring), beetroot(didn’t take😭), strawberry🍓(emphasis on the singular), potatoes🥔(due in Dec).
🐌Garden duties include: mowing lawn, digging, weeding, late night watering (out of sunny hours,or plants burn),natural bug spray making (cayenne, soap works so far),AM & PM slug patrol, cat-shite-in-the-veg-patch patrol🐱, managing grief from blight outbreak😱😅. It’s been real.
👵🏾Next phase, I’m off to hang with the elders & learn about the seeds we’ve bought👌🏾

happiness is not an ongoing state of being. it is the art of welcoming what « happens ». and last week, so much had happened. and i am so grateful to all the craziness and the beauty of people surrounding me.
i love this pic taken by @serenamorgantherapy during @jerryhyde ‘s amazing book launch, while i am laughing so much (it was so crazy!!!). following the itw and readings about the book by @shivamobrien and @ianmackenzie3 we had an amazing venue with jerry at the guitare and a 1-hour band gathering 10 people on stage. feat. @heavenly_meatball his dearest friend and mother of their children singing like WOW, @sianogorman (she has sung for the blog for my 6 year video) dressed in jesus , @kennydickenson (who is the composer of my movie) dressed in tranny with a red cap « make america great again », and more and more. HEY SINNERS, have a great week, WE ARE BEAUTIFUL!
