Deafheaven 10/24 sick new world

This graphic shoot is a very special one to me. As deafheaven has been without a doubt the most influential band in my life musically, and artistically. It was an out of body experience not only hearing the wall of sound but seeing it. It’s a funny butterfly effect, If it wasn’t for their album ordinary corrupt human love, I probably would not be doing photography and this Account wouldn’t exist.

Looking forward to shooting you guys again

“You quiver quiet violence in the theater of ineptitude.
I ONLY SEE YOU.”

There’s something about quiet violence that feels so intrinsically @deafheavenband. It’s not just the contrast between all the layers that make up their music, but how that same tension manifests onstage, simmering beneath the surface of their movements. They can be all over the fucking place, jumping around and throwing themselves into the music, while still carrying something so tightly wound and intense within their bodies. And George feels like a black metal conductor, directing all that chaos and channeling the cathartic release of tension through every gesture. You don’t just see it in them. You feel it in yourself, too.

The violence was in the sound, the tension, the movement. It simply consumed everything in its path, like a feral hunter stalking its prey.

They may not cake their faces in corpse paint. They may not have a blood-covered altar with raw cuts of meat. They may not be dressed head to toe in spikes and shock-value attire. But this was absolutely a raw black metal performance without all the stereotypical theatrics and bullshit.

Just. Pure. Black. Metal.

Deafheaven. CPH,DK. 2026.

TFW you leave all and everything else happening in your life out the venue doors for a short bit while you join a full crowd in completely submerging yourself to some beautiful moments under wavy blue stage lights and evergoing melodic tones at a show. Have been dealing with an overwhelming amount of pain for a while and some tests had just confirmed a serious injury. Had been called in to the hospital for various other scans right away same days as my trip for the show. Exchanged some quick thoughts with the hospital staff about making the trip work out and was allowed to have my scans pushed a couple of days until right after the trip. The injury have since healed up by itself, but still in pain and have physio therapy and check-ins coming up the next few months. I was exhausted, in a lot of pain and quietly freaking out by the test results that day. Only mentioned to those closest to me and tried my best to forget about it all for a moment and just completely emerge myself to the great show with everyone else there while photographing. It was so lovely to have people come by me for hugs and chats, and was great to sit down with a soft drink and catch up on things with a longtime friend of mine in between photographing. Massive thanks to the touring crew for giving me a spot to photograph a show I looked so much forward to and a well-needed break with live music when everything else in life gets weird. Another round of massive love to the great people at Selvtægt for showing super positive interest, support and trust in all my photo works. They have been so understanding and patient to see my photos from the show without any pressure or rushing the process. You are all my fave kind of people, cheers!
