An icon of the Perth arts scene since 2017, @moorecontemporary (Boorloo/Perth) was founded by arts veteran, Margaret Moore. Having previously worked at the Art Gallery of NSW, the National Gallery of Australia (NGA), and the Art Gallery of Western Australia (AGWA), Margaret opened the gallery with ambitions to support contemporary art in her home state. Decades of experience has allowed her to forge meaningful relationships with artists, arts workers, and collectors alike. “I’m someone who likes to keep moving forward and progress in life. In a way, you are always reinventing yourself. You invent your own interests and stimulus. When I started the gallery, it was the right time for me and the right time for Perth.” – Margaret Moore speaking with @artcollector

Moore Contemporary has since become a familiar presence at Melbourne Art Fair, having exhibited since 2022. Swipe to discover their past presentations, including @jacobus_capone’s solo in 2022 with his Perdition & Prayer paintings; @abdul_rahman_abdullah’s incredible
wooden sculptures in 2024; and in 2025, paintings by Ian Williams @ianwils_ and sculpture by Joshua Webb @jlwstudio in dialogue.

The gallery returns to MAF in 2026 with a solo show of works by @tovekjellmark.

Some wonderful works recently placed in a Perth office. The pieces enhanced the work environment and contributed to lively discourse amongst work colleagues.

It was a great project to be involved in!

I sat down earlier this week with Australian Artist Ian Williams. His practice is intriguing, gathering and sorting objects from the virtual world much like one might collect physical objects.

The conversation is relaxed and Ian is easy to talk to as we delve into his enquiry, background and his ability to surrender to the intuitive evolution of his work.

Along with Joshua Webb, Ian is also a part of our art luncheon this weekend at The State Buildings. I am very much looking forward to the conversation around a casual lunch.

Full interview at link in bio.

I have long been drawn to the practice of Australian born artist Joshua Webb. Conversations with Webb are enthralling as he speaks to curious phenomena and problems we live with and sometimes frustratingly ignore or consider normal.

Churning through solutions, part of Webb’s practice is deep contemplation of these problems, the solutions manifesting in his sculptures and light works.

I am excited to be hosting a group of art lovers and collectors this Saturday at The State Buildings for our first Art Lunch with Joshua Webb, fellow artist Ian Williams and gallerist Margaret Moore.

ARTIST IAN WILLIAMS with art by IAN WILLIAMS.

See these works as a part of the winter project: SHAPE SHIFTERS - PAINTED TRANSFORMATIONS.

‘As someone who grew up experiencing the rudimentary beginnings of video games and CGI, and having observed its evolution into the convincing hyperreal environments of today, it became apparent to me as a painter to draw similarities to the evolution of still-life and the impact of this rich visual history on new technology.’

On view until 19th July.

COMING SOON

The winter project is a selected exhibition presenting painters who bring transmutational force and possibility to their works. Anchored by ‘Aeneid I (Fairweather Transformation VII), 2016 by JOHN YOUNG, the exhibition combines works that embrace digital processes with works that are painted with natural hand-made matter or produced through the purity and power of a chromatic palette.
