THE MESSENGER
010

“By the time I stopped messengering in 2004, I had worked the three worst winters in recorded history. I got frostbite, a concussion, detained by the police and a scar across my chest. When I think of the colossal amount of physical energy I expended pedaling the streets of Boston , it felt like I was powering the city itself.”

THE CLOCK SAYS IT’S TIME TO ROLL NOW. REG IS OPEN. LET THE QUESTIONABLE DECISIONS BEGIN.

Sixteen years after someone said, “You can’t ride that bike in the dirt,” we’re still seeing other roads. Registration for the 2027 Belgian Waffle Ride season is officially open, and another year of rattling wheels, ragged breaths, waffles and well-earned beer awaits.

Pick your place, choose your helping and gather your people:

🧇 Arizona: March 5–6
🧇 California: May 1–2
🧇 Utah: May 14–15
🧇 Montana: September 17–18
🧇 Mexico: November 20–21

A possible Colorado event is in the works, too.

The Quad-Tripel Crown will count your best three results from three or four designated events, with the lineup and full series details coming soon.

Hit the link in our bio and join the party. Your legs can file their complaints later.

BWR Montana is moving to its second summer. Mark your calendars for September 18, 2027.

We’ve also got some announcements coming soon for the Hell of the Bozone, so stay tuned.

This year’s men’s race made history as the fastest in BWR’s history, with the top five riders finishing within seconds of each other and averaging over 22 mph on the hilly course at altitude. A race that close deserves a second look.

Montana, we’ll see you next September.

What goes up also goes down. And then there’s beer.

Hill Yeah Ride is our end-of-season excuse to get together and do all the things we love about riding bikes.

Choose your poison: road or gravel. There will be plenty of climbing, even better descending, and a few opportunities to find out who still has some matches left with KOM/QOM segments along the way.

Then we take over The Lost Abbey for the rest of it: a good old-fashioned bike swap meet, beer garden, food, music, bikes, friends and the increasingly unreliable retelling of what happened out there.

This isn’t a race. It isn’t quite a fondo. It’s definitely not a sensible way to spend a Sunday.

It’s Hill Yeah Ride.

Quotes from Fausto Issue 009

“Long before I first saw Big Sur, I read Henry Miller’s “Big Sur and the Oranges of Hieronymous Bosch”–along with nearly everything else he wrote. The title alone felt like a portal. It sounded less like a travel memoir than a fever dream assembled by a mystic, a poet and a runaway monk sharing the same typewriter.”

GOING UP? HILL YEAH. 🔴🔵⚪️

Join BWR, Coureur, and local cycling teams from across SoCal for a hill-climbing event cleverly disguised as a big bad bike party.

Road. Unroad. Climbs. Humps galore.

An expo. A bike swap meet. Beer. Friends. Teams. Shenanigans. And the kind of day where going uphill is somehow the easy part.

🚴 HILL YEAH RIDE
📅 Sunday, October 18
⏰ 8:00 AM
📍 The Lost Abbey | Vista, CA

Come race it. Ride it. Survive it. Cheer it. Volunteer. Swap some bike stuff. Drink a beer. Hang with the tribe.

Whatever you do, come get in touch with your HYR Self.

GOING UP!

Seven miles in, and the calm was officially over.

The first unroad sector at BWR Arizona has a way of turning a polished peloton into controlled chaos. Riders fan out, lines disappear, elbows come out, and for a few unforgettable moments it feels less like a bike race and more like a perfectly choreographed circus where everyone is trying to find the fastest path through the mayhem.

This is where positioning becomes survival, instincts take over, and the race truly begins.
Welcome to the beautiful chaos that is Belgian Waffle Ride Arizona.

All the best moments I captured from the 2026 @belgianwaffleride in Ceder City UT!

🎥 FULL VIDEO is up on the Goettl Media YouTube channel!!

While it wouldn’t end up being my day again, I was grateful to get to race with the #1 plate with a chance to defend my title. But I’m even thankful for all of the kind people out in course that stopped to try and help after I’d gone through all of my plugs and then flatted my spare tube. It’s really a great community we have here in cycling! 🙏

I hope to be back next year to have another crack at this one with the new course!

This year’s BWR Utah course was all-time. Everyone was a race car driver at first.

Can’t wait to come back on a different date!
